Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

This feels worth sharing—the event I spoke at this past weekend, #UtopianHours in Torino Italy, was great because it was so different. Different design, energy, tone, speakers, audience etc. We need LOT MORE like it. A FESTIVAL of bold city-making, filled with city-lovers on stage & in the audience.

On D-Day, 14,000 Canadians landed at Juno Beach, supported by the Royal Canadian Navy and the RCAF. The day saw 1,074 Canadian casualties, including 359 killed. It was a watershed moment in human history.

Canadian politician Flora MacDonald was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. She served in Parliament from 1972 to 1988 as a Progressive Conservative. She was Canada's first female foreign affairs minister. She also helped organize Canada's first Earth Day celebration.

French-Canadian novelist Roch Carrier was born in Sainte-Justine, Quebec.

Carrier began publishing books in the early-1970s.
His most famous work is The Hockey Sweater, which became a famous National Film Board animated short.
A quote from that book was printed on the Canadian $5 bill.
Two schools are named for him, and he has been awarded the Order of Canada.
