Your regular reminder that Bibi Netanyahu is about as religious and theologically serious as Trump is.

That is to say--

yeah.

Exactly that much.

In both cases, *fundamentalist zealotry* animates *one or more factions* of those they're trying to appease, but not all of them. That's it.
Yes, prosecute the $10 that Jamie Smith of Peoria, IL, donated so that her local coffee club could buy paper and markers to make signs.

(Alas, they probably *will* prosecute people like that.)
I've had to have CAT scans for various reasons and every single time they've found five lumps, all of which need to be investigated and none of which turn out to be anything. CAT scans are, of course, important diagnostic tools for various things, but I don't recommend doing them randomly.

The fact that No Kings vexes people like Talia Jane is not an important reason to go. But it is nice, and you may have it, as a treat.
Evergreen skeet...

Me: Ugh, why am I so sad and cranky?

Therapist: Could it be the slow motion apocalypse?

Me: I'm unmotivated about everything I need to do.

T: There's a lot of difficult things happening in the world and you care a lot.

Me: I must be lazy!

T: Am I on mute?
That's so disappointing! From "ha, I am so clever!" to "oh, never mind."
Absolutely. They would die if they had to deal with labor pains unmedicated. I wanna zap them with "dilate from 3 to 9 cm in half an hour" pain and then they can lecture me about my pain scale.
Nooooope. I'll be over here riding the Nope Train to Nopeville with my good friend the Nopetopus.

Also: Absolutely the fuck not. It can't be done and it will lead to a lot of people in a lot of pain.
“In nursing homes, neonatal units, and ICU wards, researchers are racing to turn pain—medicine’s most subjective vital sign—into something a camera or sensor can score as reliably as blood pressure.”
AI is changing how we quantify pain
Artificial intelligence is helping health-care providers better assess their patients’ discomfort.

Ah yes, the old "if you don't show pain on your face like a white dude, you're clearly not in pain" trick. Strange that women have been taught that we're not allowed to show our pain because then we're being too emotional or whatever. Almost like we can't win...
All of this to avoid giving drugs to the “wrong” people.

This is just going to reinforce bias over and over, meaning white men will be adjudged worthy and the rest of us will have to hear all about the “objective” machine.
Facial expressions common to all humans! 🙃
If you'd asked kid Mara if I wanted to live above a library, I'd have screamed with joy. My parents didn't actively try to make me anti-racist, but I went to a fairly integrated school and they would have disapproved of any outright racism. It was just *normal* to have diff people around.
Which is to say, yes, this is 100% giving "we'd rather have no public [pools/libraries/whatever good thing] than let our Black neighbors benefit from them" and OMG IT MAKES ME SO MAD.
I turned to my kids when this idea first came up. "Hey, would y'all like to live above a library?" Their eyes got big and you could almost see hearts circling their heads.

Saying "Black or Hispanic people might live there" would not change their minds. Because I didn't raise no goddamned racists.
::shudders:: Congrats on your restraint. I know how difficult that is.
I've put a reminder on my phone, so we'll see how that goes. ::throws hands in the air:: I know, it's not fair for me to be annoyed they didn't want the message a week early, but I'm not feeling fair today.
Good news: It worked! I've renewed my driver's license and didn't have to go to a doctor!

Bad news: I let Barak's school know that he would be leaving for an appt on Tuesday, but they replied I should only send it the day before. But then they get annoyed when I forget ::facepalm::
The MVA website says I can just get my eyes checked at their office when I go to renew my driver's license. Wanna bet the people on-site will say something different? (Sucker bet, that's usually how it works.)

But Mara, why did you wait until 3 weeks before your license expires? Shut up ::glares::

Not that anybody comes to me for Maine politics, but the fact that the Democrats successfully convinced a 77yo Governor to primary the 41yo progressive, is today's example of why the Democrats fucking stay failing.

Susan Collins is 72 and if Schumer gets his way, she'll be the YOUNGER choice!
Yes, "inherently racist people whose entire policy platform is super racist and horrible say racist and horrible things" isn't exactly a news flash.
OH YES. I won't click on any of the ones about the University Boulevard plan, because blurg.

I've very briefly been in a wheelchair and I pushed a stroller for years and as I navigate cracked sidewalks that have poles sticking out of the middle of them, etc., I think about those populations.
::inarticulate screams of rage::
HFS, there was an accident that closed most of SB I-270 at 370 *and* an accident that closed part of the Beltway Inner Loop and part of the Outer Loop near Connecticut Ave o_O

I'm frequently grateful I don't commute, but today I'm extra grateful. Wow.
Of course there's already someone who has retained an attorney ::eyeroll:: I can't imagine this being a winning lawsuit. How *dare* the county use their legal right-of-way to implement a public good like safer pedestrian and bikeways, plus add public transportation! Terrible! ::snort::
Call me a glutton for punishment...I replied to a ND post freaking out over the bus rapid transit work starting on Viers Mill. Now waiting for the people complaining housing prices will go up, others complaining housing prices will go down, and a lot of people who don't know what a right-of-way is.
So many things people complain about us spending money on are actually money-savers. (See: vaccines abroad, housing first in the US...)

Like, even if I can't get y'all to care about other human beings, can we at least do the thing because it will a) save your life, b) save you money, or c) both?
Yes! I believe that raising antifascist kids and pushing against fascism among their friends and in their schools is underrated. We can't solve all the world's problems, but we can push back. And at least we know we haven't made the world *worse*.
