One of today's reminders that a lot of communication from the highest levels of the U.S. gov't has no connection with reality. That corrodes public discourse everywhere.
They also set the clock running on the auditor general's investigation of health contracts. The clock runs out in April. That gives unco-operative interview subjects a big incentive to obfuscate and delay. Wyant report was a bust. RCMP investigation could take years. Cleanup in aisle 5 almost done.
Today Elections Alberta requested $13.5 million to be able to administer recalls and referendum.

The UCP committee in charge revised their request to just over $1 million.

And then voted it through.

The UCP just defunded recall/referendum.

Can we all agree that when a president pardons a guy who was convicted for financing terrorists, and then says he didn't know the guy but "I was told" to pardon him, the follow question MUST be "Who told you to pardon him?" But CBS never asked: who is making decisions in the White House? 1/

Before-and-after Fox News headlines on a story based entirely on AI-generated videos they found online.

The new version of the article comes with an all-time “Editor's note” at bottom:

“This article previously reported on some videos that appear to have been generated by AI without noting that.”
Gaming their own system. It's the cute way to establish superficial excuses for protecting themselves from a mechanism they themselves set up (apparently thinking they were the only ones who might use it).

The four NDP MLAs on the committee vote it down: Sheppard, Miyashiro, Wright and Chapman.
This morning at the Standing Committee on Legislative Offices...UCP majority introduces a motion starting a search committee for a new auditor general.

NDP MLA David Sheppard says Doug Wylie wants to stay on two more years. Wylie is reviewing the allegations of inappropriate health contracting.

Particularly galling when I read this about 90 minutes after paying $135 for a shot at a small local pharmacy in Edmonton, where I went after a few unsuccessful attempts to get through the booking process for a health clinic.
I'm in Burlington, Ontario, today.

Popped by a neighborhood Shopper's to get my COVID-19 shot.

Administered by an Ontarian. Paid for by the Alberta government.

In Edmonton, the shot would have cost me $100 and I'd have had to wait weeks.

Make this make sense.

There are few lessons to be learned here:

- Consider who the source is 🤥

- Don’t count chickens before they hatch 🐣

- Never underestimate the #ForeverCanadian movement 💪

And it’s another Gen Z-led movement.

I guess Venezuela is more important to Trump than Ukraine. Maybe it also means oil is more important to him and his pals than Europe.
That's a lot of military hardware to position and not go to war. A lot.

Fun fact: The border through Lloyd is...wrong.

50 Ave is understood to be the border - the west side of the street is Alberta; the east side is Sask.

However, 110 degrees - where the border is supposed to fall - is actually about 200m east of there. Just east of 48 avenue (where it crosses 16).

Pandora's box is a very good reference. The party that wanted recall (and other) petitions probably thought their base supporters were the only ones who might organize these efforts. A general election would be one way around the petitions, but at what risk?
The UCP's pandorra's recall box is now well and truly blown open.
Well done @jennyyeremiy.bsky.social and others.
