this is one of the best articulations of the AI bear case I've read

most of the AI companies are also massively wealthy and profitable hypercorps, but OpenAI specifically is a bomb planted at the heart of the American stock market helpfully labeled "this is a bomb"

it's hard to beat Republicans on their home turf, but "superficial activism has its place" is a strong contender in this year's projection playoffs

I think it was @faineg.bsky.social a few months ago who posted about the original 1960s(?) bot that people who should have known 100% better interacted with as though it was a real conscious entity

seriously, does this man - this titan among titans - really look like a grifting bullshit artist/idiot?
August 17 2015 Time magazine cover showing 22-year-old Palmer Luckey (his real name, I guess) in jeans, a light green polo, and bare feet, wearing an Oculus headset and pretending to jump in front of a sandy beach and ocean background, his arms extended

The lead story is headlined The Suprising Joy of Virtual Reality

they're gone now, but I remember setting up computers and phones and email (not social media) accounts for older relatives

only a couple went rogue, but in hindsight it was completely pointless, they'd have been happier with TV and a landline

something I look for from posters is whether they delete posts with significant errors or quickly and prominently acknowledge those errors

In fairness, I was traveling, but I completely missed that there'd been yet another lethal strike on a boat in the Caribbean. We're getting to the point where the military murdering boatloads of civilians is a below-the-fold kind of story. We're in a very dangerous place
Trump says U.S. struck 5th boat accused of carrying drugs off coast of Venezuela, killing 6
President Trump says the U.S. has struck another small boat he accuses of carrying drugs in the waters off Venezuela.

since the 1960s the Presidential Medal of Freedom *has* been awarded to some illustrious recipients, but it's suffering now, its condition seems terminal, and the next president should do the merciful thing

I wondered about this too, and the only Argentinian trip I could find (at any time, including before being elected) was his 48 hour stay for the 2018 G20 meeting in Buenos Aires where he did not have a good time and left as soon as he could
