This morning we thought there was no way we could reach our goal! But, you all are so generous!

We are only $1,800- away from reaching our goal!

We have less than 24 hrs to go
Can you help us get there?

Tons of great fiction available for really great prices!

People knew how to write headlines, once upon a time.

Tell children today that, they won't believe you.
Newspaper website headline: "Blind bisexual goose named Thomas who spent six years in a love triangle with two swans and helped raise 68 babies dies at the ripe old age of 40."

Illustration of a white skull partially obscured by colorful mushrooms and plants. Different fungi sprout from and around the skull, including red mushrooms with white spots, yellow fan-shaped mushrooms, gray cluster mushrooms, and orange bulbous mushrooms, with green and purple plants filling the background. A ribbon at the bottom of the skull reads “ADMIT ONE.”

I dont want them to call me on the phone, either!
mcardlejeanne.bsky.social
why...why...why do you need my phone number or address on a submission? if you want to ask me for a general location for demographic data, fine, but in the year of 2025 there is no reason for random slush readers at multiple markets to just have my phone number and address.

I'll be there on Friday evening and Saturday and maybe around Sunday morning if anyone is still around. Doing a reading Friday night at 5:30! Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Well, it's Creative Writing I teach, rather than English - but yep, guilty as charged...

Strewing wonderful examples and seeing students gobble them up is one of the best parts of a truly *great* job :)

I sent a story in and made some recommendations as a reader! Good luck, all!

Yes please. I just subbed to a market today that I later learned uses AI art. It's really disappointing. I want my writing as far from AI as I can control and I'm tired of the investigation game.

IMO every publication and every publisher should have a clear statement about their generative AI policy. To dictate what is acceptable writer usage, yes, but also to declare their own usage (or lack thereof). Do they use it for slushreading, editing, illustration, correspondence?

Wanted to help this escape Reddit containment: Farscape is popular in prisons (and in my house.)
Farscape is very popular in US prisons
It is one of the few shows that are on the free movie apps we would have on our tablets that had any decent story and production. It was very popular in the prison I was in because of that.
Several times I was surprised by people who were big, gang affiliated, with a violent history and covered in tattoos and they were the biggest fans, on their 8th or 12th run of the show.
Edit: Surprised by the reaction! So here's some more info:
When I entered prison in early 2024, every single inmate was issued their own tablet. The tablet can make calls, texts to friends and family outside, play games and movies, etc. Everything on it you pay for monthly, except the games pass which lasts for a year. The tablets can differ though, in our city jail we had better tablets, those had better movies and you could buy real games like Pokémon and Final Fantasy Tactics. The tablets you get in prison have games more akin to standard mobile games. Candy Crush was one of the free games every tablet had so that was a big topic of discussion as well.
For 7.99 a month you get access to Crackle and all the stuff that comes with it, one of the things bring Farscape. Options being what they are on Crackle, Farscape definitely stands out if youre planning on spending a lot of your time on your tablet.
There are little groups that discuss it in the library and around Halloween there were some goofy fucks making costumes from the show for a laugh.

In a change of pace, I’ve written a hopeful climate fiction piece about survival, psychedelic mushrooms, ecoterrorism, and popcorn. It’s free to read in @tractorbeamearth.bsky.social ‘s latest issue!

if you were to pitch a short story collection of spec fic of 75k to 120k, what would be the ratio of previously published vs new material you'd pitch or expect to see as a small publisher?
mcardlejeanne.bsky.social
congrats, Rebecca! looks like a really strong issue
