Yes, and also recognize that with creative fields, survivorship bias is real: You hear about full-time creatives with envious career arcs precisely because they've survived in the field where others (for whatever reason and independent of quality of work) have not. This is an important fact.
Would-be/struggling writers can feel like losers or wannabes when they read about other writers writing "full time" or promo'ing their book in various exotic cities. And it's good to recognize that, yeah, sometimes there's another income (or a spouse is helping to pay the bills).

Ooh, have upgraded the story cards to be able to show multiple contributor types including people who are more than one type for this same story.
(PS the story and authors are real, the other names are attached for testing only)
(PS forgive the space overrun, on my todo list)

Libraries are free for you to use, serve the public good, are great, support creators financially and, I cannot be clear enough about this-- ARE FREE FOR YOU TO USE-- so pirating books makes you kind of an asshole, not some Marxist revolutionary.

If the book you want isn't there *request it.*

The big money floor routine required to make it all look like an actual business with uses is a real self-sucking dick and the sooner we recognize that, the sooner we can let it dehydrate and die.

think of how literally everything has AI shoved into it now. The reason isn't because there's any demand for it, it's to get a quick investment payout for it. All those things will collapse.

legislation could kill AI overnight. It's a very weak and defeatable monster, have faith in that at least

this is why, as much as I fucking despise AI, I'm not really too worried about it lasting forever

it's floated entirely on venture capital investments made for manufactured demand. Delete/restrict access to datasets/trained data full of illegal material, and monitor massive energy usage. easy
You have to keep giving money to avoid collapse and if there’s collapse you have to give more money. It’s called the free market.

You cannot respect artists at a fundamental level and steal their work.

Sorry, but that's why we hate AI.

If it's truly to fuck over the corporations, go drop the cost of that novel in an author's tip jar anonymously.

But we all know you won't do that.

So.

Request books from your library. Shit, I'd rather you ASK ME for one of my books outright than pirate it. Yes, I've sent copies this way.
November 24, 2025 at 2:01 PM
In addition, if you then brag to the creators of that book that you pirated their book that is another level of crapweaseling
I do not even want to know why this is Discourse again, but book pirates are crapweasels and if you steal books you've done a bad thing and should feel bad about yourself.

Yes! And this applies even if that person is me, for any reason, you do you!
Pro-tip: It's okay to unfollow the person who doesn't do anything wrong or problematic but whose entire vibe stresses you out.

There is no way you can guess how the thread that ends in this instant classic begins.

Home Alone makes changes to the Die Hard formula that render it hard for me to enjoy. The McClain character should feel overawed. And in theory having Kevin be a child versus adults achieves that. But the thing is: Kevin is a god. It's not just Tom & Jerry. This is some random punks versus Anansi.

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

What Happened That Night
Josh is gone, but I see him everywhere. Even now, it's his reflection I see in the puddle as the storm brings me back to reality. I shiver. Seems I'm always cold these days. I need to get my shit

This is a great offer! Online magazines, Erin's help has been instrumental getting story metadata in order!
If there are any other magazines, journals etc, who would like my help cataloguing their fiction by tags/genre/etc hit me up! The only caveat is that you have paid your authors!
@erincairns.bsky.social , founder of the fabulous InkFoundry did the lion's share of the story metadata entry with help from @quitevague.bsky.social and the Diabolical Plots First Readers. This might have taken me years to do myself! This was so helpful!

Yeah I turned it off and now I have 52,000 new emails in my only inbox.
The multi box functionality existed before AI so they just being petty
Well I guess its time to start blitzing unsubscribes and blocks instead of ignoring them in Promotions tab, can probably downgrade my Google storage costs
