Street medics can have many levels of certifications in their professional lives- we have nurses & physicians who work street medic shifts & protests too. SMs tend to focus on working with marginalized & underserved communities so we often work with harm reduction & housing advocates too!

I like to offer up a few avenues: See if there’s a local street medic org near you. They often provide training and resources to get started. I also highly encourage getting your CPR/First Aid certificate and look into EMT-B & Wilderness First Aid training if you find you like it!

It’s never lost on me that I was one of the lucky ones.

My assault was METICULOUSLY documented. I was believed from the get go by everyone in my chain of command and allowed & encouraged to get support.

It still took 6 years to get my Disability
Rating.

And I am one of the lucky ones.
