A few months ago, I FINALLY read this short fiction from our local SF&F author (among other things) Naomi Kritzer (@naomikritzer.bsky.social). It's a post-disaster story, but in the vein of Hope Punk & Solar Punk.

We, the transgender community, receive a lot of flack for apparently erasing the word, 'woman'.

Yet, I increasingly see in the press, transgender women referred to as 'biological males' (slur) AND cisgender women referred to as 'females' rather than women.

Who is really erasing the word, 'woman'?

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

Federal immigration enforcement officials called off a planned raid on Canal Street today shortly before it was slated to begin.

New Yorkers who heard about the raid showed up at the garage where the feds had gathered, and as federal agents tried to leave, the NYPD cleared the way for them.

I... Kinda disagree. We should all know who we're dealing with!
Here’s a hot take: I don’t want to see lawmakers posting holiday pictures from their mansions — I don’t care which party.

Keep that shit to yourself.

My company recently unveiled in-house AI tools. Management's encouraging everyone to use them (to justify the probable eyewatering costs)

Meanwhile the database that everyone does constantly use is held together with gum and the development team's tears
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

I'm sorry, this is cool as hell. I loved this show.
When I was a kid, my sister and I used to "play Furniture Guys," in which we'd construct small pieces of furniture out of cardboard and scrap wood and stuff, and then paint it with markers or glue pieces of fabric "upholstery" to it, wisecracking while role-playing as Ed Feldman and Joe L'erario.
