HOLY SHIT THIS WAS AT @romtoronto.bsky.social !? Was it on display before 2024!? Did I unknowingly see it!?

'A near-complete skeleton found on Dorset's Jurassic coast has been identified as a new species of ichthyosaur, a type of prehistoric marine reptile that once ruled the oceans.'
Fossil found on UK coast is unique 'sword dragon' species
Scientists say the newly discovered species of marine reptile probably met a grisly end.

There's something about the crest of Pteranodon sternbergi/Geosternbergia that makes it feel way more natural then longiceps. Maybe seeing the latter's crest in inaaccurate cartoon depicts does it.

Gonna be honest: i'm rooting for Blade over Buffy, for several reasons.
1. Blade is cooler IMO.
2. Buffy is white, and as far as i'm concerned, white people are inheritly... uncool.

Man, is there a lot of Orange Spinosaurus as a Palaeomeme.
Quadrupeds, by usan Swan from Dinosaur Mysteries, 1980. Playskool commercil has a toddler hold a spinosaurus toy. From Gigantic by Patrick Obrien 1999, a Speen with oversized brow horns barely recinusable as Spino.

SAUROPOD RESEARCHERS: A review of reported "tail clubs", their morphology & hypothesized function(s) would be very useful. They seem to exist in Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis, Omeisaurus, Shunosaurus, Kotasaurus & related taxa. I think this would be a valuable contribution to the literature

Another Triassic oddball: Hypuronector. This little one looks like he has an attitude.

Since the publication of a feather-like crest on related Mirasaura, it’s plausible to imagine other drepanosaurs also having something similar - perhaps they just haven’t been preserved.
Illustration of Hypuronector, a vaguely chameleon-like arboreal reptile from the Triassic period. The animal is blue-green with large spots on its large tail and a colourful crest on its back. It’s walking on a mossy tree branch, looking confident.

New #paleoart posted to #Patreon: woolly mammoths around a duck-filled lake. Accompanying the hi-res and WIPs of this image is a discussion about mammoth colour: the uniform red-brown mammoths of classic palaeoart seem unlikely now. Check it out at www.patreon.com/posts/night-...
#fossil #sciart
A herd of mammoths, with three large individuals up front, and lots of smaller, more distant individuals in the background, surrounding a shallow Pleistocene lake. They stand on browning, yellowing grass in front of a blue, partly cloudy sky. The mammoths are variable in colour, some being dark, some pale. A juvenile mammoth, blonde all over, has broken ranks and started chasing mallards around a pond. He has made a little grebe nervous. Why has this baby mammoth started attacking other species? Well, animals are a lot like people, Mrs. Simpson. Some of them act badly because they’ve had a hard life or have been mistreated. But, like people, some of them are just jerks.

1. Ghosts of Mammoths Past, a gothic horro story about an aggresive mammoth who gets haunted. Taking influence from Japanese horror and folklore, its a dark and atmospheric short that references proboscideans' grat intelligence and capacity for terror and love.
