A scam text message I received today:

Important Legal Notification: Penalty Charge Notice

This is to inform you that your account has an outstanding balance of £6.99 for unpaid tolls, which is 15 days overdue.

To settle the payment, please visit the official GOV website to make the payment：

https://pcn.trafficfinehelp.com/gov

To activate the link, please reply with ‘Y’, then close and reopen this message. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the link into your browser.

・In accordance with the Traffic Management Act 2004 (Sections 7, 9, 10, and 15), failure to pay within 12 hours will result in the following legal consequences:

・Credit Report Impact:
The overdue payment will be reported to credit agencies (Equifax, Experian), negatively affecting your credit score and access to financial services.

・Legal Action:
We will initiate court proceedings through the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), and you may incur legal fees of at least £150.

・Driving Privileges Suspension:
Your driving license will be marked as "abnormal", and you may face a fine of up to £2,000.

・Late Payment Fees:
A 5% daily late fee (£0.35) will be charged until the full amount is settled.

Please ensure payment is made within the next 12 hours to avoid further legal action.

In my opinion it’s time to retire the Nobel prizes for fields where most of the important discoveries have already been made, like physics, and add prizes for newer fields where substantial innovations occur every year, like speedrunning
