Hello new people of #operasky! ๐Ÿ‘‹ This is your periodic reminder both that there is an opera feed where you can view a broad swathe of the opera content on this platform, and also that, if you speak more than one language, bsky will only show skeets in English unless you adjust your settings
Hmm I can't think of any independent ones sadly but I think any of the bigger mondadori or giunti bookshops might be a good bet?
Welcome to Trieste! On a related note, Pagna the (mostly) kosher bakery does great bagels

if you're trying to convince someone that opera is not Like That, I advise you not to show them Verdi's I masnadieri, which I am watching for the first time and finding to be one of the most Like That operas I have ever seen
If you start with Puccini or Wagner and feel maybe it's not for you, try Hรคndel or Mozart next. Different people like different things

For the third night running, an unmated male mockingbird* is singing outside the bathroom window. He can do car alarms, phones, multiple other birds, trucks backing up, distant sirens, and a couple mechanical noises I canโ€™t place.

I simultaneously hate him and would kill anyone who messed with him

A while ago a lovely German man appeared at our church. He came a few times to look around during our Saturday opening hours, before asking if the piano abandoned in the corner worked.

I told him it was horrendously out of tune, and the cathedral piano tuner had deemed it not worth sorting out.

The first public opera house, Teatro San Cassiano, opened in Venice in 1637, making opera accessible to the general public and transforming it into a celebrated art form. This democratized music's reach and inspired countless composers. #MusicHistory
It's him as Tolomeo on the glyndebourne Cesare recording, I think he developed the Parkour Contraltist prototype
Christophe Dumaux is a stone cold legend, did they make him do backflips in this one?
I'm not based in the US, but boosting to #Opera in case someone more experienced has some insight.
