Also, society in general loves to masculinize tall women, esp tall Black women, unless we’re runway-thin. Like femininity only counts in fun-size. It’s happened to Serena, Megan before she slimmed down, Queen Latifah, & so many others. Tall & thick doesn’t mean less woman, but are often treated so.

When I got my cancer diagnosis, all my doctors said it was so rare to catch a cancer in the forming stages the way they caught mine. All because I went to the doctor often and early.

I’m 5’4 too and I don’t date super tall men either. We look weird together & it puts a strain on my neck/back constantly having to reach up to somebody lol

Going to the doctor often was the reason my doctors were able to catch my cancer before it spread & got worse. So. Yeah. You absolutely do need to go to the doctor. Often too.

Absolutely agree with this.

I do also think that the sentiment, “everyone get checked”, is worth being expressed because a lot of folks with access to good doctors and affordable care still don’t use them enough.

I’m learning how to take better care of myself and using resources is part of that.

There’s an idea that when someone dies before retirement age from a health issue, they must’ve neglected their health, so “everyone get checked.” I want to gently push back on the idea of it being all self-neglect & remind 1) some illnesses are incurable 2) bigoted healthcare system is shit 3) cost.
