virgil the cat, who always gets his nightly treats between 7 and 8 pm, is SUPER angry with me lately as it's now getting dark out long before that appointed hour. this is the face of discontent.

a disgruntled loaf of a grey tabby cat sitting six feet away on a wood floor and glaring at me as if i have wronged him unforgivably. he does not know how clocks work, and therefore perceives this as a personal failing on my behalf.

also while i'm complaining about truly stupid things, i think "unrepentantly having a nazi tattoo" is the same caliber offense as "being prominently featured in the epstein files" as a disqualifying personal trait.

i think we collectively need to start referring to "smart" products (like the beds that cook you when the internet acts funny) as stupid products. because that truly sounds completely stupid to me. your product isn't smart enough to keep working without big brother giving it constant instructions.

It's available to read in Box 60 of the Phil Gersh papers at the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming.

Currently only two later drafts are publicly available.

The first draft of The Thing screenplay is now on the internet archive!

Credit to u/RunDNA for pointing out that not only was the first draft not available anywhere on the internet, but also where it was available to check out, allowing me to scan it.

This is the beauty of the internet. Someone in Australia notices that a screenplay is in a library on the other side of the world in Wyoming and then in less than 19 hours someone else scans it and posts it online.

I was legit shocked at how fast it happened.

There's lots of scenes and dialogue in there that fans have never seen before.

Thank you for going to all the trouble.

we wanted to repaint it a slightly different color, and it took like three years of back and forth negotiations before the historical people actually let us do it. we weren't allowed to do ANYTHING to the place without An Entire Rigamarole about it all. this is absolutely INSANE levels of wtf

yeah my old house was built by a person of historical note (without doxxing myself, the house has a wikipedia page, i have just learned, which is a strange thing to learn about a place i used to just think of as home...)
