Katapult Magazine is using a simple cartographic trick to make is easier for other nations to understand what the loss of land Ukraine had to suffer so far would mean for them. Lesson: Always benchmark your data, people!

This morning my ChatGPT quota was inexplicably exhausted.

It took a while but I pieced it together. Voice mode somehow got activated when I went to bed.

The bot then engaged in a 10 hour conversation with my snoring dog, answering questions the pup wasn’t asking and praising him for his insight.

The factories building your future are still burning fuel like it's 1950.

Steel mills. Cement plants. Chemical refineries. Food processing facilities.

They all need heat. Massive amounts of it.

And for years, the answer has been the same: burn fuel.

Electric car sales in the EU are up by almost a quarter so far this year!

The bloc's car CO2 targets are continuing to drive EV take-up – as carmakers respond by bringing more affordable models to market.

Now is not the time to weaken the targets further.

SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

Two graphs in today’s FT.

Notice the UK’s position on both graphs.

Men in balaclavas set fire to a mosque in East Sussex last night. It's only appearing on the BBC's local coverage, rather than its main national headlines, despite coming just a week after the (also under-reported) firebombing of an asylum hotel in London last week

So much to mourn here. ICE shot and killed a single father just after he has dropped his two kids off at daycare. Their justification for stopping him was traffic violations form 12 years ago. Their justification for shooting him was that he was driving away.

A completely needless tragedy.
ICE lied about the person it shot, claiming he was a "criminal," but NBC finds that he had no criminal history whatsoever. Not even traffic tickets in 12 years! It also lied about the extent of the injuries to its agents....

Pollutting now and cleaning up later is not a viable strategy: Direct Air Capture (DAC) is hitting a hard reality check.

Costs are falling much slower than anticipated, casting doubts on the nascent technique’s role in tackling climate change.

“It is increasingly indefensible for news coverage of climate change not to make it clear that this crisis is driven by very specific human activities – primarily burning fossil fuels. And in second place is food, agriculture, forestry.”

Nathan Gill is no fringe politician.

He was the leader of the Reform Party and before that UKIP in Wales.

A Brexit Party MEP.

A friend and ally of Nigel Farage, who in 2016 called him:

"terrific," and "as honest as the day is long."

This is a MASSIVE story

1/ I’m Till Eckert, a ProPublica reporter. For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been going to the same NY immigration courthouse.

Nearly every time, I see ICE agents arresting immigrants. Today, a woman was slammed to the ground after begging officials not to take her husband away.

And while the cost of living impacts have been severe, they haven't been terminal as he missed the window.

US LNG was ready, renewables were ready, demand response/efficiency surprised.

If he drained German storage even just 6 years ago and kicked it off then instead of 3, different story.

He has 150k followers on X, and about 1k here

In a less insane time, if it was discovered that the President of the United States said this privately to their AG, it would’ve triggered an all-encompassing, impeachable corruption scandal.

Here, Trump is saying it publicly and it’s just another Saturday.
