This EP may have turned 20 but it remains as fresh as the day it was released. Butterfly Concerto is the standout for me - where Task Force, those dusty hobos of UK hip-hop mix pastoral folk with rap in a blissful psychedelic paean to mother nature.

Great piece. Coming from Glasgow I take a perverse pride in the fact that one of the boys first records was a tribute to Tennant's Super Lager!!

Love this album - a lost 80s classic.

So he trashed Common on a Mack 10 guest verse. Cube was probably complacent over starting beef with Common but boy did he get a rude awakening. On the Bitch In Yoo Common came at Cube hard, winning this battle hands down. It didn't hurt having Pete Rock in his corner!

"Went from gangsta, to Islam to the dick of Das EFX".

Watching Common play a hardman on Apple TVs the Silo got me thinking about that time Ice Cube and Common got into it on wax back in the day.

Cube apparently thought I Used to Love h. e. r. dissed him and the whole West Coast.

Ha ha. Someone needs to make a complication reel of these No 73 guest slots. 5 Star joining the Redskins on stage is a particular favourite of mine.

Big up Tim Simenon, UK plunderphonic pioneer.

Absolutely Chris. Bay area hip-hop from that period was so politically engaged. Not just Paris but The Coup and Disposable Heroes all had plenty to say. The by-product of growing up in the Panthers hometown I guess. We need music with this sort of anger and insight more than ever.

Released ODT 35 years ago, The Devil Made Me Do It by Paris. An incendiary album preaching militant panther power, it's as relevant as ever in light of ICEs malign presence on US streets.

Rave, hip-house and crime families all feature in the latest episode of The Rough Guide To Rongorongoland

Yesterday's episode of The Rough guide To Rongorongoland is now up on Soho Radio's Mixcloud www.mixcloud.com/sohoradio/wr...

This month I was joined by two rave legends who hail from considerably different backgrounds but, as is the magic of music, were united in the dance.
Wrongtom feat. Erique Dial & Richard Raindance (07/10/2025)

Mind Of An Ordinary Citizen/Forward. No official release date for this banger. No surprise given Blade flipping recorded, marketed and distributed it by his goddamn self. I picked it up in Oct 1990 (via mail order I think) so it's around 35 years since it first dropped.

This one's for Robert Jenrick and every other racist wanker out there.

Babylon is falling. It was foolish to build it on the sand. Handsworth shall stand. Firm like Jah rock. Fighting back.

Dilla rather graciously agreed to re-record another live improvised kick pattern and that's what we now hear. It doesn't repeat for 20 bars. According to my drummer son this was not only unprecedented in hip-hop but the very reason it sounds so great!
mossieposse.bsky.social
Fatlip didn't like the kick drum pattern (it's deliberately out of synch). When everyone was out for lunch he sneaked back to the studio and re-recorded it (deleting the original version that Dilla had improvised live). An enraged Trey opened up a can of whup ass - Fatlip left with a fat lip.

Runnin’ by The Pharcyde is 30 today! A stunning production by Dilla featuring a beautiful Luiz Bonfa guitar sample. It's renowned for its improvised kick drum pattern – a beat so dope it caused a fistfight between Fatlip and Slimkid Trey. Rest easy J Dilla.

Coverage of Jenrick today basically amounts to sane-washing. He didn't criticise judges. He claimed there was a conspiracy by certain judges, who he had discovered and could number, to undermine British law and create open borders.

“… a sort of mad McCarthyite scream of paranoia and anxiety of the sort which he has now branded himself… he is living entirely inside of his little mind…”

Ian Dunt @iandunt.bsky.social nails Robert Jenrick’s plans for “activist” judges during Sky News’ Press Preview.
