For DECADES now we have inflated the egos of techbros into the sky & beyond.

We elevated them as geniuses & visionaries. It's our job now to deflate those egos & bring these jerks to heel. Knowing how to code or get VC funding does not mean you know anything IMPORTANT about how the world works

This one and NOAA really hit home.

There is no possible way Musk’s cadre of young’uns has the first clue about how complex either the aviation system or the climate system are. This is like handing a six year old the keys and saying, “You drive for a while, I’m going to take a nap in the back."

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

Maybe, but boy that's a lot of wishing while cash burns.

Must be because I wound an org down last year and those financials are giving ME hives. We were broke, but we were orderly about it and everyone got paid as owed. Had not recognised that as an accomplishment until this happened.

I just don't see how that kind of financial mess happens . . .
narwhallibrarian.bsky.social
Jeez your head must be a pretty bad neighbourhood 😅
narwhallibrarian.bsky.social
The numbers are real real bad. Worth taking a fortifying drink before you look.

It is sad and those financials they released yesterday are enough to give me heart palpitations.

Puffin has paused sales of its children’s Spy Dog, Spy Pups and Spy Cat series - a website printed in some editions redirects to adult content with no age verification.

The link, originally used to promote the books & characters, has been taken over by an unrelated 3rd party.

Friends and comrades made a crowdfunding page for my family.

It’s really hard to post this. I know that there are a lot of other important issues asking for money but things have gotten to the point where we need to open ourselves up to your support.

Thank you for your consideration.

Does anyone know how the electoral commission handles snail eaten ballots that have been very very wet and dried out so the glue on the envelope had to be ripped and then sort of folded down?
narwhallibrarian.bsky.social
Yes and that is so important. Without the respect and listening, things fall apart.
narwhallibrarian.bsky.social
Oh that's a good idea! I should do that too. It's like a snail house right now and that's not great. 🐌

Same! The snails love paper apparently!

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

We do like to talk alot! Very chatty group here at the bottom of the world.
narwhallibrarian.bsky.social
True--would be super interesting to see some research about why some groups show better cooperation and culture than others online . . .
narwhallibrarian.bsky.social
It really does--we may interact online, but we exist in a social reality based on the actual world. It changes how we behave. Wonder if Japan's slice of Bluesky is similar?
