If you are talking about the USA, companies already sell their products at export-price parity, which they would continue to do if their tax breaks would end. Ending the US ones might slightly raise imports and hence international prices at times, but not by much.

Govt growth models depend upon industrial/economic output sustained largely by fossil fuels. Such subsidies/tax breaks keep the essential energy flowing to satisfy society's acquired needs. To reduce GHgas emissions/global warming the subsidies should encourage "diversity" into clean renewables

Tropical Storm #Melissa has not yet strengthened. But this actually bad news, since a weaker storm is more likely to linger in the Caribbean and become a major hurricane, as @bhensonweather.bsky.social and I explain:

Tropical Storm Melissa not yet strengthening, but still expected to become a dangerous Caribbean hurricane » Yale Climate Connections
The track forecast is more uncertain than usual, but Melissa is likely to bring colossal rains and life-threatening flooding to multiple islands in the Caribbean.

Again. What does your point have to do with fossil fuel subsidies?
I’ve got a short piece up in The Conversation on the catastrophic flooding in Southwest Alaska from ex-typhoon Halong and the challenges of recovery work. #akwx #ExtremeWeather #Alaska #AlaskaSky

I respectfully disagree. The fossil fuel subsidies should not be conditional on anything. They should instead be ended. Do we really want or need the biggest, most powerful companies in the world acting as agents for the energy transition? Big Oil has been investing in RE for years — just enough …
I think I understand the many reasons why people believe it's not worth it to phase out fossil fuels, but I also feel exhausted and vaguely insane living my life knowing that while the world seems normal on the surface, the fossil-fuel economy is, right now, breaking the world forever.

Really cool podcast, about a futuristic carbon-free energy source. But would the waste heat from this process contribute to significant global warming if this energy source was tapped at large scale?
Today on Volts: geothermal startup Quaise is using microwaves to pulverize rock, drill down miles, & access levels of heat that cause water to go supercritical, so it holds exponentially more energy. The promise is geothermal power with 10X the productivity -- enough to lure FF giants into the biz.

it is again insane to me that people think it’s better to shoot shit into the atmosphere- which has consequences we don’t know about- than stop using fossil fuels, something we already know how to do.
The thing about solar geoengineering is that once you start you cannot stop *ever* unless somehow you have already removed all the multi-billions of tons of carbon emitted since the day you started.
If you stop at the higher CO2 concentration you get virtually instantaneous catastrophic heating.
