Whatever.
Two can quote post.

If you are talking about the USA, companies already sell their products at export-price parity, which they would continue to do if their tax breaks would end. Ending the US ones might slightly raise imports and hence international prices at times, but not by much.
Govt growth models depend upon industrial/economic output sustained largely by fossil fuels. Such subsidies/tax breaks keep the essential energy flowing to satisfy society's acquired needs. To reduce GHgas emissions/global warming the subsidies should encourage "diversity" into clean renewables

Some of the latest models are outlandishly extreme in intensity. Our two best hurricane models, HAFS A and B are near 900 mb Cat 5’s BUT this depends on #melissa moving southwest of the NHC track. If the storm gets into the W Caribbean, it is off to the races… 1/
Artificial Intelligence, at some indeterminate time in the future, is more hype than threat. Defective intelligence, as manifested in Donald Trump, is the real clear and present danger, now.
Trump is a wilfully ignorant and uncouth aberration, totally lacking any depth of knowledge, understanding or sense of US history.
Trump's destruction of the White House is second only to when the British burned it down in 1814.
Both actions of malevolent kings
Scary. The region around Jamaica/Hispaniola is not being lulled into any false sense of security or reduced threat that Melissa might not become a hurricane (it still could). As a very large, imminent storm that may stall for days the likely huge rainfall is potentially devastating/catastrophic.
It is very rapid change, & a signficant trend - and we know why. This trend cannot be confused with decadal variations.

Again. What does your point have to do with fossil fuel subsidies?
The lack of empathy from the WH utter parody of a Govt for the people, is pushing a penny-pinching culture upon the masses of "every man for himself, & learn self sufficiency", whilst creaming off the wealth of the country (generated by its workers) to further enrich the US oligarchy/elite 1%
Most of us, & more so the wealthy controlling elite, have become habituated to having abundant energy at our fingertips & I don't think enough of us wil volunteer the necessary sacrifices to significantly reduce the global demand for FF energy/products especially in the face of strong FF influences.
Realistically, burning fossil fuels cannot be ended quickly because the energy gap remains so huge. Today electricity meets only around 20% of total global energy demand, of which portion clean renewables now provide around 35-40%. There are no silver bullets & we are trapped by our energy needs.
I respectfully disagree. The fossil fuel subsidies should not be conditional on anything. They should instead be ended. Do we really want or need the biggest, most powerful companies in the world acting as agents for the energy transition? Big Oil has been investing in RE for years — just enough …

Govt subsidies afforded to fossil fuel corporations should not be misdirected to make its executives even more obscenely rich. Instead such subsidies should be "conditional" upon the FF companies investing significantly in renewable energy to reduce overall GHgas emissions, not add to them.
I think I understand the many reasons why people believe it's not worth it to phase out fossil fuels, but I also feel exhausted and vaguely insane living my life knowing that while the world seems normal on the surface, the fossil-fuel economy is, right now, breaking the world forever.
Adding this to the dumbing-down by Trumpolitics, the cynical manipulation by mass media, extreme religious dogma, & a conspiracy-theory-fantasy culture - may explain why USA society, generally, is in such an awful mess today. Australia under ScoMo attempted to follow such a deleterious pattern.
Trumpolitics is all about self-gratification for the few in the upper echelons of its cabal of corruption. Unfortunately the MAGAts swallow the profligate excesses of their ruling class, as if they are blindly obedient serfs of medieval England.

Rusty not golden. The mass media with its magic screens that feed the lazy, or young impressionable minds with a ceaseless diet of self-gratifying, mindless & addictive disinformation, conditions acceptance of its dumbing-down, which suits those who control and/or fund the media and its narrative.

"The vast accumulation of evidence shows that the human impact on Planet Earth has attained geological scale. We have become an ‘event’ with the destructive force of a supervolcano or large asteroid impact, but one that appears to be happening in slow-motion in terms of our own limited perceptions."
Trump shouldn't get the Nobel Peace Prize if one considers his bombing of Iran, & his enabling the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Yes, a very cool podcast outlining geothermal with a difference & potentially with significant advantages over many other energy sources: if the end result really matches the hype. Even if it adds to the global heat engine, its success would maybe offer the fastest route to NetZero CO2 emissions.
Really cool podcast, about a futuristic carbon-free energy source. But would the waste heat from this process contribute to significant global warming if this energy source was tapped at large scale?
Today on Volts: geothermal startup Quaise is using microwaves to pulverize rock, drill down miles, & access levels of heat that cause water to go supercritical, so it holds exponentially more energy. The promise is geothermal power with 10X the productivity -- enough to lure FF giants into the biz.
The remorseless rise in levels of heat, pollution & acidification is a major concern for effects it's having on ocean marine habitats, incl those which support the phytoplankton that supplies half the oxygen needed for life on Earth. Getting worse & potentially catastrophic in the decadal near term?
Perhaps it is a disguised Malthusian agenda to counter exponential population growth - if not it will have a similar effect particularly as concurrently the habitats for all lifeforms on Earth are shrinking at an alarming rate.
Fossil fuel energy is the crack cocaine of our civilization incl the obscenely rich, dictators & tyrants. The supply chain is not gonna be shut down by the self-serving coal-gas-oil barons & their armies of pushers (aka lobbyists & bought politicians) despite the inevitable dire consequences.
it is again insane to me that people think it’s better to shoot shit into the atmosphere- which has consequences we don’t know about- than stop using fossil fuels, something we already know how to do.
The thing about solar geoengineering is that once you start you cannot stop *ever* unless somehow you have already removed all the multi-billions of tons of carbon emitted since the day you started.

If you stop at the higher CO2 concentration you get virtually instantaneous catastrophic heating.
