I'm going to start collecting threads on HK protest art in one place. Easier to walk down memory lane, even if they be filled with tears and teargas.

Having these in many places mean the images are harder to erase. And harder to forget.

#TaiwanArchives: 1890 slow-exposure photograph of #ducks swimming at Beiguo Garden (北郭園) in #Hsinchu. Considered one of the five top leisure gardens in #Taiwan during the Qing and Japanese colonial eras, it no longer exists today after a major portion was destroyed by American air raids during WWII.

For those who are wondering the lore behind Jedi Kumamon and why on earth it is facing off against the HK police:

It all started with HKPF arresting a student for buying some laser pens, which the police had insisted were dangerous weapons. Pissed off HKers gathered at TST, lasers in hands, to demonstrate that, no, you can't set fire to paper or heat up a pizza with lasers.

oh btw if you guys liked Silent Hill f may I suggest Detention. It's by the same studio that made Devotion. It takes place during White Terror in Taiwan and has some really great horror elements from Taiwanese mythology.

Love how a supposed libertarian read how China is trying to censor ‘excessively pessimistic sentiment’ and conclude that - yes, US can use a bit of this

So, I was reminded that this happened six years ago.

"Generations of Chinese women have been rendered voiceless by the patriarchy. Their stories refuse soft burials."
So honored to have a review essay out in Banned Books Week @chinabooksreview.com on two of Fang Fang's most acclaimed novels, Soft Burial & The Running Flame, tr. @bairuiwen.bsky.social:

These two pictures from LOST IN TAIWAN show the same location at two different times of day: noon vs. very late afternoon. You can see how I altered the colors to convey the two lighting situations.

Although you also have to wonder whether Hu means US cannot prevent a China invasion if Taiwan because Chinese military has grown stronger, or because the US military leadership has become an embarrassment
seanhaines.bsky.social
In a rare tweet, former Global Times chief Hu Xijin says: “The US cannot prevent China’s reunification with Taiwan by military means.” 🧐

It’s just one month since state media bent over backwards to describe Beijing's mammoth military parade as a not a show of force, but a "show of peace”.

#MilkTeaAlliance friends -- if you're passing through ChiangMai, do feel free to visit 4Seas Nimman and check out our humble poster exhibit about protests in Myanmar.

It also highlights artisans working to generate livelihood through these hard days. The exhibit will be open thru Nov 6th.
