Both Inuit and non-Inuit academics say hunger in Nunavut is not a new challenge, but it's an issue that's been increasing in recent years.

APTN News web reporter Jesse Staniforth took a deep dive into hunger in the territory.

At the TIME100 AI celebration last night, Natasha Lyonne stood in front of the emperors of AI and challenged them to their face. Doing that takes guts. And I’m incredibly honored that she cited my work as well.

Thank you for speaking truth to power, Natasha. 🙏

It's sunny and warm (9C) out.

I'm going for a walk. Stretch my legs, enjoy the shine!

I have the { declare type, declare value, define value } methods working again for my basic number type.

The implementations can be refactored a bit, but otherwise the relationships and expressivity feel right. The real test is reimplementing these methods for my tuple type.

Tomorrow?

Realizing I made a bad choice in my list model.

It's fixed length, so I chose the end as the null location. The original design when it allocates it starts from the end and moves backwards. In theory it's fine, but it's a bad choice because the symmetry creates perf overhead.

Rewriting.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Bottom line: all the evidence in this study points to the association between tylenol and autism arising due to unmeasured inter-family confounding, like genetics.

Not due to a true causal relationship.

I took a whole week to read and write about this paper because I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t just rubber-stamping some results I liked. And now I can confidently say, this paper is very well-done and very well-written.

And I believe their results.

Finally, a well-done study about autism and Tylenol!
We have read a LOT of bad research over the past few weeks, as we explore what RFK Jr thinks about the causes of autism. Finally, we get to read some good research!

The Alberta teacher strike that has affected more than 700,000 students isn’t just another labour dispute.

It’s the latest front in a long campaign to undermine education — closely linked to the right-wing Project 2025 initiative to transform America.

It's been like that for a while. I think I replied about it when I first noticed but there didn't seem to be any response.

There needs to be more coverage of this in the news. I have read so many stories bout this on Facebook, first hand stories of the terror of that storm, and very little coverage n media.

Screenshot of a Facebook post. Photo is an elderly woman holding a child on her ap on a couch with flood water around them. Both are wearing jackets inside. Text says: This was after our 1st drift.. staying put for awhile. Our 3rd and final drift was terrifying. House moving fast then we started spinning in circles. While we were spinning in circles my oldest daughter was just staring at me while I held onto my younger two. Kipnuk doesn't look like kipnuk anymore, like more than 3/4 of the homes displaced, power poles fallen. It smells like stove oil outside. Contaminated

Finally got the "declare type" method set up for my compile time type system's basic number type. I've done this many times before, but I really like the new redesign this time. I'm still getting use to it so I'm sure I'll refactor a bit later on, but otherwise it feels very natural. Glad.

it's kinda weird that all the software i am expected to use for work are all written by distributed teams, go, python, postgres, linux, chrome, k8s etc

and despite being told "the best teams work in an office together" i don't know of any software i use that's actually written that way

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.
