Just full-time jobs in US academic institutions:
Definitely better (+84%) than the worst COVID year (2020) but still worse than other post-COVID years; e.g. one-third fewer such jobs than last year.

The interaction illustrates how federal law enforcement officers do use aggressive tactics against protesters who yell and needle officers but don’t appear to present clear physical threats.

Well, if only there were a large supply of foreign students who would happily pay a premium price to get access to American higher education.

"'There simply aren’t enough students to go around,' said Nathan Grawe, an economist at Carleton College in Minnesota. But the effects of the demographic cliff, he noted, 'won’t be evenly distributed.'"
U.S. Colleges Are About to See a Big Decline in Applicants
Forget a lot of what you thought you knew about higher education.

Not only is Ezra not getting called out for this by his journalist colleagues, he is actually in lockstep with them, viewing themselves as simultaneously above the fray and as political strategists. And that is a HUGE part of the reason why we are where we are as a country.

Probably not ideal that everyone’s reaction to the fire alarm going off in my building is to stand around the lobby asking if someone can turn it off

I understand why students don’t love spending a semester drawing supply and demand curves, but this is why we make people students spend a semester drawing supply and demand curves

Building more housing reduces housing costs and is good. But one reason this isn’t the basis for a massive political movement is that most people think building more housing actually raises prices. You might even say building more housing isn’t very Popular

Just now, 11 state and city lawmakers were arrested by DHS police on the 10th floor of 26 Federal Plaza after a hour of demanding access to the ICE lock up on the same floor. @thecity.nyc

That it’s inaccurate is the point! It’s similar to the episodes in the Sopranos where they got to Italy and are completely out of their depths. It’s to highlight that these people who claim to care so much about white Italian culture don’t know anything about actual Italian culture.

all i want is to one day own a modest sized home in a walkable neighborhood and raise money for shelter animals. wear an outfit i like, walk to the grocery store, buy some nectarines, feed cats, and live in peace. just don't understand why achieving this is so hard

1. Uses up class time that could be spent teaching
2. Restricts the sorts of questions you can ask to those that can be answered within one class period
3. Grading hand written work takes longer

All that said, I only do in-class exams, but there are real drawbacks.

The only positive is at least the massive mistakes were somewhat evenly distributed between the two teams. It was looking very lopsided towards Golden State (but what else is new) until the last stretch where Memphis benefited from a few phantom foul calls.

It is 2015. The GS Warriors are allowed to foul the Grizzlies on every possession, Steph is hitting insane 3’s, and my mental health suffers.
