When the second amendment was written the constitution also allowed slavery and only granted the right to vote to white male land owners. Side stepping the reality of slavery and Slave Patrol militias makes me wonder why you are so determined to ignore it.

Facts: Two kinds of militias
Founders had slaves and well regulated Slave Patrol Militias to keep them.
They feared King George's army so they also formed militas to fight tyranny.
Both motives were true in creating the 2a.
The slavers commtted treason because the Runaway Slave Act was repealed.

For southern states Slave Patrol militias were about preserving slavery. They went to war because the Runaway Slave Act was repealed and to keep their slaves and their Slave Patrol militias.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
