Here’s why I have no sympathy for schools in the current financial landscape:
You can find the money when you want to. (See also seven- and eight-figure salaries for head coaches and Taj Mahal practice facilities.)

James Franklin's buyout will be around $50 million. His contract was fully guaranteed.

That will be the second-highest CFB buyout ever, behind the $77 million Texas A&M is paying Jimbo Fisher.

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

Chicago journalist Debbie Brockman, who was thrown to the ground & handcuffed by ICE, has been released without charges

DHS said she assaulted an officer, but eye witnesses claim she didn’t

The lack of charges makes it clear that ICE is lying to try and cover up the fact that they attack the press

New levels of hell: just got an email from our local AYSO cancelling today’s youth soccer games because ICE is at the Home Depot across from the soccer fields at James Park in Evanston.

At their lowest point this year, Becky Hammon had Aces’ players start doing their own scouting reports and putting together practice plans. She thought it would be temporary. It helped them turn everything around: www.si.com/wnba/aces-lo...
“Sometimes you kind of get used to just the coaches doing all the work, trying to motivate people, giving stories, the speeches, everything,” said Loyd, also new to the team this season. “It hits different when it comes from your team. It’s personal ... People are getting more vulnerable in the locker room, opening up, and I think that’s when we all just opened up to each other a little more. We kind of just used that as a bonding mechanism, and it allowed us to just really buy into everyone’s story, with a lot of stuff to hold ourselves accountable on and be more vocal and take some ownership.”

In this case, I go by level of the game.

FIFA keeps saying next year’s World Cup will grow the game’s fan base here. But Super Bowl-esque ticket prices aren’t the way to entice new or casual fans, let alone families.
As always with FIFA, greed wins out.
FIFA cheapens 2026 World Cup by pricing ordinary fans out of games | Opinion
After super-sizing the 2026 World Cup by expanding it to 48 teams in 2026, FIFA is jacking up ticket prices, excluding middle-class families.

Seems a little weak for a double-tech in a Finals elimination game, but what do I know?

Here is the pool report from Game 4 of the 2025 WNBA Finals.

Per crew chief Roy Gulbeyan, Tibbetts was assessed two seperate technicals for yelling, "that's fuck--- terrible," twice.

Mark Davis did impromptu pressers tonight. One on the podium and another with a group of reporters. I asked him the status of the latest investigation that league opened on the Aces for salary cap circumvention.

"I don’t know. If you could find out, would you please tell me."

Chelsea on CBA (A'ja punctuates her answers with tambourine shakes)
We have great players, you need to treat them like that. There’s been lot of eyes on this league, right? Everybody is stepping up to the plate, putting on performances that are legendary. It needs to be treated as such.

Becky gave her players plants at the beginning of the season and Chelsea and Jackie are very proud to say theirs are still alive.

Becky tears up when talking about what this group means to her.
"I love being their coach. I love being their friend. I love pushing them, sometimes to their dislike a little bit. I’m invested in their greatness and getting that out of them every day."

It is funny. And it’s cute and it’s pink. But this is a symbol of the joyfulness we have right now and I’m grateful to be with this bunch. And that ain’t the alcohol talking.
