Living in a two loom garage with an attached house in the Cascadia bioregion. Mostly things related to textiles, and lots of photos of Victor Velluto, an elegant goofball Russian Blue cat.

Victor has made it clear that this is the only correct and true configuration of office equipment that will meet his needs.
A grey cat, asleep (he wants to think) on his back, his front paws curled up bunny-style, and his fang showing, just a little bit. Behind him is a pale green iMac and in front of him is a black adaptive keyboard. This positioning assures frequent breaks for belly rubs (his, not mine.)

For those not willing to try a 100 yr old newspaper recipe, see “Aspen Oatmeal Bars” in Maida Heatter’s Book of Great Cookies. Cut ‘em small - they’re very sweet, but oh so tasty!

Some people doodle. My mother-in-law sews. Happy world squid and cuttlefish day!
A homemade green squid plushie with orange trim. Probably not anatomically correct. He's more than 2 meters from... um... the top body part to the bottom body part.

It’s rainy rose season again.
Two vivid deep pink cabbage-type roses against a backdrop of rose foliage, all covered in large rain drops. The tag has gone missing, but I believe this is rose de rescht. Terrific scent

I imagine this guy shouting at museum patrons with a squeaky little voice, ‘C’mon, you think you can take me? Look what I did with the last guy!’.

This green-glazed terracotta gladiator is ready to rumble, but only his competitor’s foot remains. 🏺 1/

Terracotta gladiator group, with an olive-green enamel glaze. Two gladiators once opposed each other on the long base, one now missing, save his left foot. The remaining gladiator stands with his right leg advanced, his scutum (shield) held before him in his right hand. He holds a sica (short curved sword) in his left hand and wears a crested visored helmet and extra long greaves which cover his entire legs.

I wrote a Molly of Denali episode this season! It’s about Native themed Halloween costumes and how to celebrate a person respectfully. Thanks to Quannah ChasingHorse for letting us use her likeness!
I’m going to miss this show and this team so much.

No medieval filter here! A modern recreation of a Viking ruler for Denmark’s National Museum, based on the depiction of Cnut in the New Minster Liber Vitae and on clothes found at a grave in Mammen, Denmark. #medievalsky

I tell you what. There’s probably someone in your orbit who could really use the gift of a couple of beautiful green eggs.

Saw a Very Fancy Pigeon strolling down my block this afternoon. It was wearing tasteful blue and green leg bands. I hope it makes it home safely.

Think of it as an umbrella that you wear.

My bet would be oiled silk. These probably don't survive well, so they might have been more common than our present day clothing collections would suggest.

okay I PROMISE! This will be my last post on the calash. Specifically, a PURPLE CALASH. Well, if I can have it in purple maybe I do want one. The Vergennes (VT) Enterprise & Vermonter, Wednesday, March 20, 1839 #DressHistory #TerriblePoetry
MY PURPLE CALASH.
'Tis only what ever should please
Proud Fashion profanes with her touch,
Who, rather than beauty and ease,
Will pour to the wrinkle and crutch.
I wish she would let well alone,
Invention not put to the test,
To please every ill-natured crone
That's nothing but rouge and cologne-
Theatric effect at the best.

I were to a convent inclined,
If not for its shutters and wall;
I never could make up my mind
That life should be winter and fall;
My heart and my footsteps are free,
And fashion—a buzz and a flash-
May whisper her awful ' Oh see !'
And laugh as though laughing at me,
Displaying my purple calash.

It's long been the envy of girls,
Admired by many a beau,
And shadowed as beautiful curls
As e'er to the shoulders may flow.
It's been a companion and friend,
As constant forever as now,
While hopes, like young shepherds, attend
The flock of emotions that wend
Their way from the heart to the brow.

Twas formed for that epicure ease
Convenience hath over at will;
Though it fail slaves of fashion to please,
With me tis a favorite still.
It can ne'er to a convent belong,
That appellates glory but trash;
Where care will not hush to my song:
I would rather remain with the throng-
A recluse 'neath my purple calash.

How well every dress it becomes:
The ball's, promending's or playe;
How nicely the fingers and thumbs
Bestow it a thousand of ways;
E'en night-winds may mutter and sigh
Or snow-drops, in August, too, fall;
With him that should love me anigh,
Its strings 'neath my chin in a tie,
December l'd not heed at all.

(several more more stanza of hideous poetry, ending with:)

No ores of the ocean or isles,
No plumes of the woods or the air,
Were aught in their magical wiles
If pledged for the gem that I wear.
The pilgrim sings most of his shrine,
The miser his lusterous cash, Victoria her nation and line,
Or Albert, to her half divine,
But I of my purple calash.

Wow. There’s revisionism and there is….whatever *that* is. Quite a whitewashing. I can’t say more without resorting to very bad words.
