In case any recent arrivals are wondering what happened to my long-standing Twitter avatar, here’s why I changed it.
The avatar I’ve always used online in the last - it’s the villager from Animal Crossing with an EU flag photoshopped expertly onto his shirt

What a brilliant idea.
Also useful if you need to pick the lock on cuffs or poke a masked assailant who refuse to identify themself in the eye...

“Comely Reader! I suggest we all start wearing the paper clip. Subtler than a red hat, more powerful as a CONNECTION,” @ejeancarroll.bsky.social

Join Us: Paper Clip Protest
Let's all start wearing paper clips.
During World War Il, people wore paper clips as a powerful symbol of resistance against the Nazis.
Norwegian teachers and students attached them to their lapels, symbolizing solidarity that connected them just like paper clips hold papers together.
Today, we wear the paper clip for the same purpose. It acts as a quiet yet strong signal to others that we are united, that we oppose the takeover of our country by a petty tyrant, and that we are standing firm against the destruction of our democracy.
Wherever you go, when you see a paper clip on someone's lapel, you'll know you have an ally.

My 2yo just informed me that her favorite food is gummy bears wrapped in salami. Then she held eye contact while wrapping a gummy bear in salami and eating it.

Summer 1924. A British-registered floating pub appears 15 miles from the US coast. It's a hit with thirsty prohibition-era yacht owners.

I recognise that stretch. It has been a beautiful day hereabouts.

83yo mum has been talking to her German #Querdenker friends and now she says she won’t have her Covid booster this year because apparently it gives you long Covid and I’m fuming 😡

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

Catching up on the #Traitors hashtag gives an odd mix of old fashioned event telly pop culture and desperately depressing politics.

I’m afraid that if you emigrate to Dubai for the tax breaks and 24-hour security, you really should give up your citizenship here for someone who wants it.

this high quality gag came from someone who is also here but as he hasn’t posted it himself I assume he doesn’t want to be tagged to share in the glory
Farage is being interviewed. He says “I WAS ABOUT 14 AND IT WAS OVER THE PHOTO OF EVA BRAUN”. The interviewer says “ERM... I ASKED YOU ABOUT THE WEST BANK”

Nope. New file for me, so learning on the job.

OK that makes sense but why would they actually spread grit?? Couldn’t they just have driven the routes?
ottocr.at
Can anyone explain to me why gritters are out and about spreading salt in South Buckinghamshire? There’s nothing in the forecast to justify it? ❄️

Yeah, in hindsight an even worse decision, unless they were playing a very deep game and looking to incentivise a future hypothetical fragile manbaby to advance the cause of peace purely in order to score points against Obama

(I do not think the Nobel Prize Committee are “trolling Trump”, by the way. I think you are all reading across your own opinions and this is a committee of people acting out of - in their eyes - great moral seriousness, they wouldn’t be acting out of spite or malicious glee)

Former Head of Comms for the IEA, Annabel Denham, says the super rich will leave if we have a wealth tax.

Yes, the very same IEA that brought us Liz Truss’ disastrous mini budget. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Green Party leader Zack Polanski explains that their taxable assets can’t leave. #bbcqt

I can’t believe anyone was even seriously entertaining the idea that [gestures at the destroy the world guy] might have been considered for the Nobel Peace Prize. As a former winner of the Nobel Peace Prize myself, I’d have handed mine back. (At least my 450 millionth share of it.)

Fascinating how the inclusion of @zackpolanski.bsky.social on #QuestionTime alters the whole tone and tenor of debate for the better.
And how much the audience like it!

I have to say, it’s great to see Reform being called out for exactly what they are and what they do by Zak Polanski on #questiontime

I understand why some people might have misgivings or question whether he’d be a good choice for PM - maybe, maybe not - but THAT’S NOT THE POINT. Right now, what we need is someone doing exactly what he does really well, as a communicator.
