I seem to recall that the Dems gained power in the 1930s by moving left. And they lost power in the 80s and 90s when they were moving right.

Aside from Ike, leftism completely ran the country from 1932 to 1968.

And Ike gave us the Interstate Highway System.
I guess here on Bluesky it's controversial to note that the Democrats, once the majority across this country, were reduced to national minority (in stages, from 1968, to 1980, to 2016) by moving left.
But if you'd rather think I'm just making Trump's point...well, whatever helps you cope.
I'm questioning this statement, "the left started to lose the public (who to this day don't see Reagan the same way they do.)"
Who is this *public* you speak of? Wouldn't the left be a subset of it?
This feels like the current Trump regime's feelings that Democrats aren't real Americans.

Friday Pauper Challenge 31-Oct; 51 Players. UB Fae wins and Fams gets 2nd place after its 1st last week. High Tide was the big winner with 3 in top 8 and most played in top 32 (4). Elves and Jund were the next most played (3). Where is the U Terror and Fae to save us from Tide? #MTGPauper

I feel like one of the most awkward things about the way my ADHD manifests is I'm just absolutely BRILLIANT at EVERYTHING, some of the time. I go places, I take names, and the world quakes in my wake. Some of the time.

And the rest of the time I'm an amorphous blob

Happy Devil’s Night!

Sorry I haven’t been around that much this evening. In addition to board games my other big hobby is arson, and as you can imagine tonight is basically our Gen Con.

My life is like a reverse Buster Keaton gag: the thin empty frame of a house collapses around me, any danger far away from hitting me aside from one small window that’s in the perfect position to strike me on the head, killing me instantly.

Yes, Lord of the Rings is about how you must trust the “hard men.” Just as Narnia is about an evil lion. And the New Testament tells a tale of a wimp who wouldn’t fight back. Next week on “fascists read classics,” we’ll meet tech visionary George Orwell…

The "hard-men" of Gondor were getting their shit kicked in until they were rescued by foreigners and a girl.

The Shire was doing fine until they let a fascist demagogue ("Sharkey" aka Saruman) take over, close the gates, impose a bunch of thug-enforced rules, and despoil nature for profit.

If the Texas lawsuit against Tylenol seems a little out of the blue, well, it's because Ken Paxton's motives have nothing to do with pregnant women or children.

It's because he's losing his primary race. And he desperately wants Trump's endorsement.

Excuse me? So the company the President currently owns is teaming up with a cryptocurrency company to create a prediction market, which will take bets... on things the President himself has quite a lot of control over?

Gosh, I'm sure nothing bad will happen.

Hypothesising a kind of Lore Kessler Syndrome where the quantity of online debris around an artistic property eventually makes further exploration impossible - fairly easy to argue Star Wars has reached this point
I guess it's the artistic equivalent of the way the switch from information scarcity to information glut has completely changed the value of "controversial opinions"; now everything comes haloed with explanation, art that sits in a less interpretative space feels more precious to me

Breaking: Mamdani’s story about to-MAY-toes alienating voters who say to-MAH-toes

CNN is reporting that @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social referred to a voter he was meeting as “my man” at a campaign event today, even though the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution has made it illegal to own human beings since 1865 and remains the law in states including New York

My momma bestie is my auntie
My auntie friend that go to her church is also my auntie
My 75 year old cousin... is also my auntie

"Auntie" is what happens when you understand the expansive proposition of family

"That's not your aunt" is what happens when you live outside of restorative community
Stunning. I ordered a piece for my steampunk garb (pics forthcoming) on Thursday.

It was coming from the UK to California. Arrived today, only 5 days after ordering. Well done, Royal Mail and USPS.

Yes we need to keep people and institutions accountable but if literally ALL you post about is how much you hate Democrats, liberals, mainstream news organizations, protests, allies etc then congratulations you've somehow made being a leftist indistinguishable from being a GOP psyop.

i deeply love WIRED and their reporting, but that ed zitron piece was one of the most bad faith, head scratchingly bizarre pieces i’ve ever read

you will note that the latest report, like all the reports, spend no time dealing with with the media environment or attention economy. (it also weirdly treats political choices as untethered from events)
