“The genocide can take my home, my library, my plans, & my lifelong friends, but it cannot keep me from writing.”

During the genocide, writing has become an ultimate form of resistance, allowing Eman Ghassan Abu Zayed to ensure her people, her martyrs, her friend Rama live on forever.
For Rama, my partner in dreams. I write because she cannot.

Let's get this straight: Speaker Johnson canceled session and refuses to swear in Rep-Elect Adelita Grijalva, who would be the 218th signer of the discharge petition to force a vote to release the Epstein files.

Bring us back in session, release the files, and let's open the government.

Trump promised free plane tickets and $1,000 “exit bonuses” to immigrants who opted to self-deport.

ProPublica spoke to a dozen Venezuelan immigrants who said they followed the president’s instructions, yet never received the promised assistance.
“I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore”: They Tried to Self-Deport, Then Got Stranded in Trump’s America
Venezuelan immigrants signed up for a Trump-promoted app called CBP Home, which promised a safe and easy way to leave the country, and prepared to leave on their given departure dates. Those dates hav...

if we are going to have a supreme court that is as powerful as it is, i basically think justices should be forbidden from public comment on their work as well as any supplemental source of income while they are on the bench. (they should also ride circuit again but that's a bit separate.)

The substance of what she's saying is bad and unconvincing, but more fundamentally, I really don't think Supreme Court justices should be going on book tours where they publicly comment on their work and respond to criticism of it. Either put it in a written opinion or hold your peace.

Amy Coney Barrett defends heavy use of the shadow docket: "If we wrote a long opinion, it might give the impression that we have finally resolved the issue, and in none of these cases have we finally resolved the issue."

I said something to her like “We’re talking about judicial retention”, and she said “I got your postcard! I’ve sent in my ballot and I voted for all the judges, and for Alex Rose”! OMIGOD, that felt good!

If you're working to make a difference, take heart, you do. 💙

I sent postcards VBM voters in my district, urging them to vote to retain Democratic judges, and vote for Alex Rose for county council at-large. I was talking a neighbor on the sidewalk this afternoon about judicial retention, when a woman that I didn’t recognize walked by.

The November 4th election has the mayor’s race and other local races, and also decides who will control PA’s courts. Our majority Democratic PA Supreme Court protects our voting rights, access to healthcare, public school funding, clean air & water, unions, paid sick leave, LGBTQ+ rights, and more!
The ballot will have lines like “Retain Justice David Wecht: Yes / No”. It will not show a party. Every statewide judge up for retention is a Democrat, so please vote YES on all of them. Turn the ballot over to find these races! ↩
Please help elect the excellent Democrats on the ballot, and keep our courts protecting us! I’m also voting for Alex Rose for County Council At-Large. A Democrat cannot run for this seat, but Alex will represent us well (and the alternative is a Republican.) Our own District 11 Rep. Paul Klein can use his help!
Please put your ballot in the mail soon!
Thank you for being a voter! - Janet

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Because of Republicans’ massive health care cuts, millions of American families will see their premiums skyrocket. That could mean having to choose between paying for health care or electricity.

That's how dire our health care crisis is.

That's why Democrats are not giving up.

I was commissioned to make a zine for the No Kings 2 protest on Saturday Oct 18th!

If you wonder “what can I do?” this zine is for you. It’s packed with things that you can do from wearing a “no ICE” pin to organizing a visibility brigade with your friends.

Hand holding a black and white illustrated zine of two people holding signs that say “we marched! Now what?” No Kings logo: a drawing of a crown with a red x over it
