I take it that sleeping on your flight would just be too lucky to hope for? 😄

Some bananapants just asked on Facebook if Brits have dishwashers. They seemed doubtful. Answers are split between a) earnest "yes", b) "yes, AND we have healthcare, but not metal detectors at school entrances" and c) "no, we have to lick the plates then throw them in the sewagey river".

Oooffff yes you don't want to miss that! I recovered from noro in April just over 48 hours before I was due to get on a plane back to the UK to see elderly relatives - any nearer the deadline and I'd have had to stay at home to protect them! Have a fantastic trip to Portugal :)

Ugggghhhhhhhhh :(

One of toddler's preschool teachers seems to have been off with something vile for nearly 2 weeks. I thought we'd all got past that one at least ...

No Covid. Pal is going to get her wedding cake!

She's asked me to choose the flavour, so I think it's going to be chocolate and coffee, with buttercream filling and chocolate fudgy icing :-)
penguingalaxy.bsky.social
Aww, thank you. Just hoping I will be able to start eating normally again ASAP!
penguingalaxy.bsky.social
Now that sounds extremely silly and fun though I'm not sure about the nothing bit. Thank you! Cat's name is hilarious! Have a fantastic time reading it 😂

It's been 15 minutes, no sign of a second line so far!

Kind of a relief to hear this said this bluntly. It just Does Not Compute in my mind that adults, much less people elected to positions of power, would be this contemptible.

part of the reason it's hard to understand is because there's no real coherent theory of politics here, it's naked, zero-sum, "fuck you / i got mine / because i can". burning and looting everything not because you want to do something with it, but just because you can. most people aren't like this.

Feeling really crap, so doing a Covid test. Really hoping it's negative. I've been asked to make somebody's wedding cake for the day after tomorrow!

Husband studied aerospace engineering. There was a dude on his course (in his 20s, I guess) who was genuinely convinced the world was a sphere like a bubble and we lived on the inside, and all the maths of flight etc were just turned upside down.

The Nobel Peace Prize got given to a Trump supporter and AI is writing earnestly about haggis hunting and conservation. The world is stupid.

One year ago today, a spectacular aurora display graced the night sky across much of the globe. This was my view in *Oklahoma.* What a beautiful world we are fortunate to live on. #photography
Pink, green, and orange aurora pillars with a SAR arc and moon-lit clouds over relatively still waters of a large lake. The andromeda galaxy between a red SAR arc and the Milky Way. Numerous pinkish aurora pillars with a bluish-purple sky and spotty clouds over relatively still waters of a large lake. Please tell me what book it was so that I can get a silly fun book about nothing that will turn the world off too.

Like I know there are edgelord leftists out there who look down their noses at shit like No Kings but sorry you guys, the more mass protest looks fun and family-friendly, the bigger it gets and the better its chances of being broadly effective

I need to actually sketch what it looked like before it all went kinda flat! Awesome isn't it?

My sister really is quite the wordsmith. For example when someone is droning on and on without it actually meaning much, she calls it "burbly wurbly". One day I really must write down all her gems.
penguingalaxy.bsky.social
I hope you don't mind, I showed my sister that photo. She says Daphne is "very floofolous".
penguingalaxy.bsky.social
I love that intense pink, and I love that floofy paw across it. And that NOSE. And everything about her.

I saw some amazing clouds on the bus today. During the bus ride the cloud over them looked more, well, cloud-shaped but with four whirlpool-like bits underneath it - by the time I managed to take a photo it had gone very thin as you see here. What was going on? Water vapour whirlpools?
A sunset sky over a dark city with trees (a bus station in Stockholm if you were wondering). In the middle is a very flat, thin cloud with what looks like three whirlpool or tornado shapes coming off underneath it on its left. There are a few other kind of swirly clouds above and around this weird formation.

Haha, my mum says brother and I’ve found myself doing the same.

In case this is useful to anyone ...

Yesterday I had a really bad stomach day - indigestion all night, then pain, etc, etc. What to eat, once I could? Wonton soup! It's wonderful. It's so gentle and it tastes of cleanness. No bad effects whatsoever.

This was me in 2023. Just for once I was early to the party.

> 10000 university jobs lost in 2024-25

"People could, even if they lost their job, get a job at another institution. That's not happening now"

"They're probably looking not only at the end of the a job, but really the end of their career in academia."
