I am Art Monster.

I write fiction and non. I make films free of studios. I paint and exhibit. I write songs for Corporal Punishment. I photograph. I act.

In other words, I have the privilege of being poor in a variety of art forms.

I wouldn’t wish it on anybody, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Roger that. But Shakespeare’s full of very smart warnings about how, when the political gods wish to punish us, they answer our prayers about disposal units…

Trouble with blowing up bad guy buildings is that you blow up everyone who works there. The bigger the target, the more people stoking fires, scrubbing floors, emptying chamber pots. Forensic research concludes that Fawkes could’ve killed everyone. He was a deranged fanatical Catholic...

What I love about Jesus is how many of his miracles are ways of overcoming embarrassing problems with mass catering. So Jewish.
But Jesus was the first Socialist.

I just realized I met a young Zohran Mamdani when his family came to see my play in NYC nearly 16 years ago. First time I met his mom Mira Nair and his dad Professor Mamdani as well.

Wow. Small world. 1 degree of brown separation.

And now that teenager is the Mayor of NYC!
Suddenly saw what the Bluesky robot recommends as Similar Accounts to yours.

Believe me you don’t want to know…
Don’t know about Anthropology, but Anthropic owes me a few class-action grand for stealing and feeding two of my books to its robots.
Half of New York could leave New York, it’d still be as full as it ever was. Like Nature, New York hates a vacuum.

Whatever you hear about folks leaving town, discount most of it.

“Walk through any studio lot right now — Burbank, Culver City, pick your ghost town — and the silence tells the story. Parking spots are suddenly easy to find. Writers’ rooms are half-empty. The spreadsheets that once justified those jobs are now being run by algorithms.”

LA: “They took a US citizen father out and left a toddler in the backseat. Two heavily armed border patrol agents got in that car and drove the child and the vehicle away.”

Great song. I've got that compilation. Fucking love Sam Cooke, what a voice - I know he was a gospel dude like a lot of early soul singers but my god Sam had some of the purest pop tunes ever. Peter Guralnick did an amazing book on him years back.
I’ve performed twice on Broadway: once in a band way uptown in a club by Manhattan College called The Pequod; once at the Village Zendo reading my haiku novel “the way of the trumpet.” Them ain’t the Broadway the Drifters are dreaming about…

This Sam Cooke is one of the most beautifully sad songs of its day. Like Bruce’s “Racing in the Street,” which isn’t about racing at all, the “everybody’s swingin” here is given the lie by the melody over the minor chord. All’s not at all well at this party…

I was honored to read it, and I believe I compared it to THE LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER… which is not bad company…

when they use the wrong translation of marx's capital
Same reaction when I harass the Marx crowd about his rabidly virulent antisemitism.

Ok ok so one of the most influential writers of the 19th century blamed Jews for everything - how much real damage could that do? Was anybody ever really hurt?
