Archaeology is like this, but leaving out the edges and most of the middle. When anyone points this out there is this universal gesture of head tilt, slight shrug, wave of hands and utterance of it being all ritual as an answer for everything

This is the complete scene, with the animals.

A winter scene with a fox and a hare running across the scene. There are rows of houses, cottages, a river with a bridge, fences, paths and trees.

"I wanted to write about Shropshire for a long time. And because I was living there from a very young age, I felt so strongly and so sensitively about just the place itself, the nature of it. The forests, the landscapes, the nature of light there, and the animals."

Check out these ancient finds 👀

Pictured here are a Roman ring key, military helmet stud and incense bowl shard. They're just some of the artefacts unearthed on excavation and metal detecting surveys at Attingham Park in Shropshire.
A close-up of a hand holding a Roman ring key. They key section of the ring is square and like a belt buckle in shape. A close-up of a hand holding a round stud that would once have been attached to a Roman military helmet. A close-up of a hand holding a ceramic shard in its palm. The shard shows lines of frilly decoration.

The churchyard, which occupies a rising promentary on Castle Hill, is equally characterful with many interesting monuments and stunning views of the Mere. If you've never been, a visit is highly recommended ✅
