The last few days I’ve noticed sparrows in the village collecting ‘nest’ material. Here’s a male robbing a Goldfinch nest of material (one of four I saw doing this). Do sparrows line their winter roost holes/crevices? #OrkneyBirding #ornithology

Western Sandpiper. Victoria, British Columbia.

Instead of probing for worms, Western sandpipers use a fringed, spiny tongue to scrape a slimy layer of algae called biofilm off the surface of mudflats.

Classed as 'reprotoxic', EEA-NH4 is a type of PFAS that can harm sexual function, fertility + child development.

In 2023, we exposed a plant in Lancashire releasing almost 800kg into the River Wyre - so why isn't the curent EA investigation testing for it?

Walking a bit of the coast path on Mullion Cliff, Cornwall this afternoon spotted this stunning Shrike. Checking the ID I think it may be a first winter Lesser Grey Shrike but I’m not certain. Any thoughts birders? @runnelstone.bsky.social @cbwps.org.uk #birds
