The last few days I’ve noticed sparrows in the village collecting ‘nest’ material. Here’s a male robbing a Goldfinch nest of material (one of four I saw doing this). Do sparrows line their winter roost holes/crevices? #OrkneyBirding #ornithology

A male House Sparrow taking material from a Goldfinch nest (from this year). Is it lining its roost site? I’ve noticed many sparrows collecting dried grasses in recent days and four sparrows taking stuff from this nest this afternoon. Westray, Orkney Isles, 20 October 2025.
