🇪🇺 Today was my last day in my science editor job for the European Commission.
I’ve worked with some very lovely brilliant people and on some really interesting science - on wildlife conservation & environment.
I’m on my way home now, with nice gifts of flowers and… a new tent (random freebie!) 😃💐🥰
To clarify, for me it was not specifically about 🏳️‍🌈 rights, but bbc attitudes there much more widely, a toxic culture & arrogance when I stood up to them on multiple issues over the years.
Aaaaaaand this is also why you don’t see me working for the BBC…

Right wing media types are allowed on though…

Our best-selling book celebrates diversity & explains evolutionary adaptations along with messages on conservation & respecting difference, in a fun way.

Worth a look if you think your kids (ages 4-9) will enjoy learning about interesting animal characters that stand out for their weirdness.

A lot of the ideas, animal stories & science in the new Nat Geo #Underdogs series are identical to what’s featured in one of my science books, “Funny Bums, Freaky Beaks”.

I wonder where they got the idea from…? 👀

There’s a lot more in our original best selling book though.

It’s weird seeing people who voted for Labour, knowing full well what they were voting for, now complaining about how bad Labour are.

They had a choice. If they were anti genocide & pro people & planet they could have voted Green. But no.

The cognitive dissonance is remarkable.

If you’re looking for kids gift book ideas, this one of ours, for 4-7s, is popular.

“Winter Sleep: A Hibernation Story” is both a cosy natural history story and a non-fiction science book.

I've spent three days in Calais & it's horrendous.

People living in disgusting conditions. Our Government is spending £476m on the militarisation of the border.

We must divert that money to a humanitarian response that treats people with basic dignity.

Winter Sleep was my first published children’s book, 1 of 4 in our Seasons in the Wild narrative science story series exploring natural history.

It was long-listed for the Kate Greenaway Medal & is recommmended to primary schools by the literacy charity @clpe.org.uk & it’s been on the curriculum.

I have a few signed copies of my books available here in Bristol, and I’m happy to post them to uk addresses.

They are also available online in all the usual places.

This online bookshop is one of the most ethical places to buy books:

My friend Mike, a journalist & human rights campaigner, and a thoroughly decent guy with his head screwed in the right way, was arrested for being anti-genocide & holding up a cardboard sign in #Bristol - as a result he’s been banned from entering the city centre for 3 months. 😳🙈

People must see this, as the mainstream media are failing to report the real story here. Please share widely.

What a pity the Royal Society appears to have chosen Ai instead of paying a scientific illustrator.
They are not short of a few bob.
It’s the oldest & one of the most elite scientific publishers in the world with a budget of £100 million to fund whatever it sees fit:

Great news!
A rare wild fen orchid has been brought back from the brink of national extinction. Liparis loeselii is off Britain’s Red List.

By 2010, it had declined to just 3 sites in East Anglia & 1 in Wales.
Recovery work means there are now 10,000 plants at 7 sites in England & 3 sites in Wales.

I'm actually a Professor of Biodiversity, and if #biodiversity is not a political subject, I don't know what is....
My point is that
1. Professor of biology should not make commentary about politics, because it is naive and unprofessional. You are not even an environment scientist which have more interdisciplinary exposure to geopolitics and international law about environmental protection.
