It’s why I will forever call myself a designer instead of a developer, even if that’s not exactly my job title (admittedly, neither of them are my job title) because I work within the structures and guiding principles of the design process, code is a material, like brass or wood, I’ve learnt to use.

Like I meet people all the time who want to learn to code and it’s just like, girl just start doing it, make a website for yourself figure out how to write a script to do that task you want, play around with things, google, materially, it’s a spectacularly accessible hobby.

I hate the term developer, partly because I can’t help but associate it with Steve Balmer and like, Stallman misogyny, but also because I think it builds up this magical kind of arcane art of programming, like you need to read some tome or do some course in order for code to work for you, nah girl.

Whenever I share something “anti-ai” in our work slack, the go to excuse by boosters is “they just aren’t using it properly” (closely followed by, “they’re using it to do the wrong things” and “we just need renewables + batteries” if the issue is environment based)…

I really need to learn nvim (90% of VS code dev is on AI/chat/agent features I will never use), or nova, but I hear the typescript and LSP experience there isn’t quite it yet.

even when writing makes me want to tear my eyeballs out of my skull, I still wouldn't want AI to take away this experience. the uncomfortable friction between what's in my brain (makes sense!) and what's on the page (does not make sense!) is where the good shit happens

We explicitly do NOT accept any music made with generative A.I. There are tools out there that help identify genAI music. If music involving genAI is ever unknowingly let on, it will be removed if it's discovered.
