Crunchy timelines burn people out. Low page rates and advances burn people out. Give a cartoonist a living salary and the time to work, and you are investing in a long-term CAREER. Books get passed around. Audiences grow over TIME. Books don't have to be first-day bestsellers to be successful.

The skeleton is a small marsupial that died in its burrow, and has slowly eroded as the dune migrates. The dune is actually the former lakebed sediments, blown up in a great arc.

From my research trip to Lake Mungo. What was once a great lake dried out tens of thousands of years ago, and is now a great baking basin and dune formation strewn with fossils, and signs of human habitation.

Not to get all Sun Tzu on it, but when the enemy is weak and divided amongst itself, you do not relieve the enemy by allowing their partisans into your camp. You drive them closer together, force them into tighter company, and intensify their conflict.
