If anyone wants to get an idea of why I bounced of Mastodon it's because it's literally full of people like this.

Bro - you're exactly the type of loser that makes me not want to go back there. If it's full of people that need to come here and trawl people's mentions for 'mastodon' then I have all the data I need.

The thing is I don't even enjoy social media anymore. It's almost universally miserable. But alas, I am a freelancer and this is just part of the job.

I already tried Mastodon five years ago.

Some people are taking this as a sign to jump ship which is entirely their prerogative. The way I see it though moderation sucks everywhere. There's no perfect solution. We can't go back to 2015 twitter no matter how much people want it.

Mastodon is abstruse and byzantine. It almost feels deliberately so.

The issue with Bluesky is that the moderation team has a glass jaw when it comes to criticism. They seem to be pampering big name chuds and shutting down concerns from minorities and marginalised groups. Same as it ever was.

Yeah this is one of the big bugbears I have with it for sure

There's a reason I didn't stay with Mastodon the first time I tried it when Twitter started getting shit and the reason is it's fucking miserable and full of tech nerds and no one else.

I actually cannot deal with uprooting my entire social media presence every six months I'm sorry also Mastodon fucking sucks

Stumbled upon an absolutely incredible subreddit

I think they’re using it in the very specific middle English context where it was also used as a substitute for ð. There’s an actually quite interesting post by someone from Iceland about the different uses in modern Icelandic of thorn and eth.

Funnily enough that practice arose because when English typesetters imported types from the continent they used the Y to indicate Þ because they looked similar to the scribed Þ an the European types didn’t include Þ.

When people say "gods and aliens contact the marvel universe all the time, everything should be different" I remember things like this.

I find it baffling how little impact the existence of the Undertaker, a literal walking corpse, has had on science and religion

Fascists think all the good art has already been made though.

They’ll tell you that the arts & humanities aren’t practical and then …

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

It’s really hard to describe to people who are not artists how survival mode does *not* inspire creativity, as the myth would have us believe. It suppresses creativity as you try to limit every possible risk – and the opportunities that come with them.

It turns out building habits and stuff actually requires not being in survival mode, who knew?!
(Yeah yeah I did)
