the British TV watershed is hilarious. Careful avoidance of anything too "hard" until 9pm.... then BLAM! anything goes.

"The original cut of Annie Hall ran nearly two-and-a-half hours, and according to its editor Ralph Rosenblum was a shapeless mass of bits. "And so we began cutting in the direction of that relationship,” he wrote. Result: 4 Oscars. www.vulture.com/article/the-...
The Unfading Beauty of Diane Keaton
For over five decades, cinema bent itself around her profoundly original image. It had no choice.

Pimple's THE WHIP is one of the greatest horse-racing films ever made. Certainly the weirdest and (still) funniest.

possibly no more "Saturday night" way to start a Saturday night than by seeing ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK from a slightly beaten-up 35mm print at a sold-out screening, surrounded a receptive crowd, slap bang in the middle of a big city.

"As of July 2024, the Co-operative Party was the fourth-largest party in the House of Commons, with 43 Members of Parliament. As all of its MPs sit with the Parliamentary Labour Party, this distinction is seldom made."

Personal news: I’m now Chair of Luton & Beds branch of the Co-operative Party.

Given how invisible the Party, and Co-ops in general, are, it’s going to be interesting to see if we can generate more engagement? Our Beds PCC, John Tizard, is a member. But not our 5 Beds Labour MPs.

I think what's impressive about TRON is that, visually, it's still so much more interesting than any of it's sequels. It's crazy that they tried update this digital world by making it as 'realistically rendered' as possible. It's a complete misunderstanding of the original's charm.

following the deaths of Mark E Smith (2017) and MF DOOM (2020) the "greatest" now is probably 40yo Stromae (who writes only in French). 👇.
my favourite? probably Paul Waaktaar-Savoy (English) or Mahmood (Italian), with Joost Klein (mainly Dutch) not far behind.

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.
