I am a little less optimistic: I strongly suspect the current institutions are mostly incapable of dealing with this new approach, and we may quickly - globally - end up with something unrecognizable.

And once web2 developers at large realize that we can have an entire ecosystem built on composable, unruggable data... well, then things start getting *real* interesting.

It's at that point that we start seeing #atdev lifeforms that cannot exist anywhere else.
ricardo.bsky.social
It's not just about openness and sovereignty (and yes, I do realize not every network interaction should public - teams like @germnetwork.com are addressing it).

But if the data lives on the network, devs are more likely to create apps through composition, because they know access is unruggable.
ricardo.bsky.social
I expect two major kinds of ATProto apps:

1. PDS-first, where most of the content lives on the network, and only the behavior-specific stuff is proprietary (like payments or server-side analysis); and

2. Those that use it mostly for login and social graph.

Hoping we get a lot more of the first.

Offprint dev here, we will have our own lexicon schema for publications and documents (as well as a few other things), not sure if this what you mean by “PDS-first”.

There are some other long form apps I’m aware off like @pckt.blog and @pipup.social
ricardo.bsky.social
Sounds good, thanks! I'm sure at some point we'll settle on some nomenclature other than whatever OP came up with on the fly. 😀
ricardo.bsky.social
Yup, that's what I mean - an application where the data itself is hosted on the PDS'es and accessible through the network if the application were to go offline (say, Offprint turns out to not be a sustainable business).
ricardo.bsky.social
Hey #ATDev, what are the main document-focused ATProto schemas right now? I've been following @whtwnd.com and @leaflet.pub, but there's at least one I forgot, and not sure if there are any others.

(Also unclear if @offprint.app will be PDS-first, or just uses the login and social graph).
ricardo.bsky.social
I’d agree with the first part, though. Barnacles are one of those things that I am sure we as a species started eating out of desperation.

Funny how a lot of tech billionaires said they felt they were going through “struggle sessions”.

Every accusation, etc.

Nope.

Nazi Germany never gutted their own medical capacity.

This is far closer to Mao's Cultural Revolution or the Khmer Rouge.

It is - it’s a meme coin. But the market can remain irrational and cultish longer than you can remain solvent.

Zcash fucked up a lot of things on the way here - messaging, ecosystem, dev community, internal politics, UX, go to market - but privacy tech wasn’t one of them.
ricardo.bsky.social
That’s the one!

And @profile-labels.bossett.social is good too, for highlighting things like handle changes.

Don't ask me about the business model. I expect they're banking on users swapping directly through their app and them getting to capture a spread (since on a couple swaps I previewed on the wallet there seemed to be a good 2% price difference from what I'd have expected).
ricardo.bsky.social
On the bag at MERGE Madrid was a United Network NFC wallet. Seems to be the same approach as the Tangem - a card with the NFC chip which acts as your key holder.

(Retails for $50, close to Tangem's $55).

It probably signals that currently distribution is worth whatever price you have to pay.

Raiku sounds interesting: effectively a futures marketplace for Solana block space.

If successful, it should help incentivize validator geodistribution, given purchasers should be interested in getting access to responsive nodes.

For anyone who wasn't around the console trenches at the time... Microsoft put out a complex flowchart explaining how game sharing would work, and the steps you had to go through for a disc you'd bought to be playable on a friend's Xbox.

Sony replied with this ad.

You don't need laws when users take action.

The Xbox One approach changed when players rebelled, and the PS4 happened to be coming out at the same time. Even Sony jumped in and lampooned Microsoft!

I don’t expect them to backpedal unless Windows users are likely to bolt.

Bluesky client forks like Deer should display them. Mobile client support seems more hit and miss.

I use a few. Anti-Alf Aktion has been great. Others, like the PDS labeled, are more about curiosity for me right now.
