I am a little less optimistic: I strongly suspect the current institutions are mostly incapable of dealing with this new approach, and we may quickly - globally - end up with something unrecognizable.

Ugh, I need some #ATDev help. I've got an expo app that was working with app passwords but I'm migrating to OAuth.

Auth flows seemingly work fine whether I'm running as a web app or on iOS simulator. However, creating Bluesky posts only works well on web, but fails silently on iOS simulator.

"Hello, I'm here to order a Robotic Partner."

"Ah, welcome. Please fill in this form."

"Sure, for body options and features, right? Let's see... One of those, definitely. Hm. What's this 'Do you expect to be obeyed?' For that money, of course I do!"

"Then we cannot help you. We only do partners."

The CIA recruited a child and trained him to be an assassin
Its yesterdays new by now, but someone in my Discord realized something about the Afghan shooter recently

It's widely reported that he was recruited by the CIA in 2011 for a death squad. It was also widely reported that he's 29. It is NOT widely reported that that means he was 15 at the time.

My first thought on the co-CEO news was "ugh, Alameda all over again, co-CEOs always means nobody is responsible or in charge".

I did not realize the new co-CEO is CZ's partner.

Guess I was wrong on the part about nobody being in charge.

This is how I learned that Claude Code uses @bun.sh

bun.com/blog/bun-joi...

It's somewhat sad that the main path to open source sustainability still seems to be to hook a whale, but on the plus side, the Bun team will have more than enough money to continue building for the foreseeable future.
Bun is joining Anthropic
Bun has been acquired by Anthropic. Anthropic is betting on Bun as the infrastructure powering Claude Code, Claude Agent SDK, and future AI coding products & tools.

Ask me again why I reject otherwise great opportunities which require me to travel to or through the US.
It is a sign of democratic collapse because explicit white racism appears to be the policy of the US Government. Non white citizens no longer have the same protection under the law as white ones. We are all potentially identifiable as members of "disruptive populations"

This exchange inspired a new blog post, mostly fueled by the fact that the number of people claiming ATProto / #ATDev is decentralization theater is too damned high.

Ooof. This is the current day version of “defenders have to succeed every time, attackers only have to succeed once”.
Anthropic: A small number of samples can poison LLMs of any size www.anthropic.com/research/sma... "as few as 250 malicious documents can produce a "backdoor" vulnerability in a large language model—regardless of model size or training data volume."

I suspect blockchain people have a hard time interiorizing how Bluesky and ATProto are fundamentally different from how they're used to think about decentralized systems.

There's no consensus. Forks are not an act of sedition, they're about customizing your space.

Don't like something? Change it.

THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

In the end, it’s an even older problem: if you share something with someone - name, address, phone number, anything - they may share it with someone else.

People need to be mindful of who they share globally unique identifiers with.

I sometimes wonder if all these spammy accounts directly mentioning others asking for “funds for my family” are not just scams, but an active false-flag operation to get people to mute the word “Gaza”.

Understanding the world is intimately tied to acting in the world; you know something to be true because of the coherent activities it supports in the world.

This creates a link between knowledge and power: when you're powerful, *incoherent* actions can succeed from sheer power.

You know MeetUp is screwing up with MeetUp+, because the way you find out it exists is because group organizers send out messages to members clarifying that YOU don't need to pay, because they're already covering expenses.
