I for one think the Epstein Ballroom will be magnificent. I love the decor theme of “what if Uday Hussein ran a Ramada Inn.” And giving it a theme song everyone will associate with it is a stroke of brilliance! “Thank Heaven for Little Girls” is very catchy.
I’m sure this is fine and that every precaution is being taken to ensure that the security of the PEOC isn’t compromised, right?

Right?

This isn’t the behavior of an administration that:
a) cares, and
b) ever intends to leave.
The PEOC - the bunker where the president is taken in case of attack - is under the East Wing somewhere. And now Trump is building his ballroom on top of it? I’d think there’d be some #natsec implications here - wondering if I could get @pwnallthethings.bsky.social or @lawfaremedia.org to comment
NEW: After The Washington Post reported Monday on the demolition of the "East Wing facade," a new picture obtained by Law Dork that was taken on Tuesday shows that a substantial portion of the entirety of the East Wing has been demolished.
Outrageous. Driver runs over woman at a No Kings rally here in Ohio
A pickup truck drove into a #NoKings protest and hit a woman. “Witnesses told Massillon Independent photographer Kevin Whitlock that the motorist deliberately drove onto the grass where they were gathered, and struck the woman, who was sitting, before fleeing” www.cantonrep.com/story/news/a...
It is true every day, but days like today just are huge reminders that for all it's many and varied faults this country was always great and it deserves better than what it's political branches give it in return
#NoKings #Columbus Thousands of patriots turned out across the region and downtown at the Statehouse to say IN AMERICA WE HAVE NO KINGS

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

Sens. Schumer, Merkley, Murray, and Peters are calling for the resignation of OMB Director Russell Vought.

"By impounding billions of dollars … and aggressively pursuing the illegal use of pocket rescissions, Vought has done everything in his power to gut the federal government piece by piece."

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

“Oh my god… I have no words.”

Listen to the emotional moment this year’s laureate Maria Corina ( finds out she has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Kristian Berg Harpviken, Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, shared the news.

Curious and worried about AI? I am, especially related to democratic governance of AI. Read this - researchers know we need better public oversight. I can’t imagine what would lead the US and China to guarantee it, though.
This op-ed published in the @nytimes.com by Stephen Witt thoughtfully captures the urgency and complexity of navigating AI's risks, but also my sincere conviction that technical solutions are possible — we still have agency and an opportunity to act.

Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."
President Macron: “Europeans, let's wake up!

We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks.”

My sense is that super AI is building a new world where even Trump doesn’t matter, and it will not be a world that we can influence or control in any meaningful way. So the fight for democratic governance and freedom is both a fight against Trump and to influence super AI - both bleak prospects!
I think/worry about this every day - but add AI related change to it. It’s not just needing to figure out how to build the next America - it’s figuring out if we’ll even be able to attempt it under AI
I hope smart people are quietly brainstorming how to continue this country if/when the GOP is voted out of power because there's no going back. The destruction is already too overwhelming. It's going to take some very creative thinking and a lot of nerve to do it.

Is there an FDR in the house?

This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...

Democrats should never vote to fund a government that's waging war on its own citizens and firing officials *because* they insist on following court orders instead of breaking the law. Let Senate Republicans nuke the filibuster. None of this is normal and it shouldn't be treated as such.
