Almost a year ago @joshtpm.bsky.social posted: “The situation at NIH and for biomedical research in the US is MUCH MUCH WORSE than you realize.”

I can confirm that this remains true. It is today MUCH MUCH WORSE than the way everyone is acting in public.
The situation at the NIH and for all biomedical and cancer cure research in the United States is MUCH MUCH WORSE than you realize.
Ruining studies and potentially harming research subjects...

Abruptly terminating clinical trials...

Ignorant and evil

It really pays to remind ourselves frequently that this whole immigration "crisis" is made up out of whole cloth. There was no emergency, danger or problem, only a demagogue stirring up racist grievances for political advantage.

Well, it looks like those concentration camps just got a big thumbs up. It seems like only yesterday that the government was apologizing for the Japanese internment. I guess it was really, "sorry, not sorry."
BREAKING: A 5th Circuit panel has backed ICE's mass detention policy, a decision that clears the way for the administration to lock up people who are in immigration proceedings

It's a 2-1 ruling
Majority: Jones (Reagan), Duncan (Trump)
Minority: Douglas (Obama)

This is the money quote. He admitted that he found it and gave it to the staffer.
NEW STORY: Trump admits he was the one who found the video and asked that it be posted from his Truth Social account. Refuses to apologize.

Q: A number of Republicans are calling on you to apologize for that post. Is that something you're going to do?

Trump: No, I didn't make a mistake. It was fine. I guess it was a takeoff from The Lion King. And certainly it was a very strong post

J.D. Vance was booed so badly at the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony that even the announcers commented on it.

“There is the Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife Usha—OOP, those are not… uh… those are a lot of boos for him. Whistling, jeering, some applause.”

Donald Trump told Chuck Schumer that he would end his freeze of funding for the Gateway Project if Schumer would back renaming Penn Station and Dulles Airport after Trump.

Yes. And when they do it, everyone else should just hold up their hand in a stop gesture and chant "Donald Trump. Donald Trump"

We never have to.liaten to any of these people again and anyone who tries to use them as moral arbiters should be shut down immediately
When he's dead Evangelicals will go back to pretending they cared about the morality of politicians and I'm telling you it will be the most shameless shit you've ever seen

RFK is using his position to push things that have never shown any benefit in autism & have shown serious harms, including numerous dead kids thru the years. Why push for things known to harm instead of looking for things that could actually provide benefit? Because the harmful things are profitable

Wasn't the reason "disastrous" become an obligatory attachment to Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan that he wasn't able to get all the Afghans out who had worked with us? Now that Trump is just sending them back, I guess this was just the media's way of trashing Biden in "news" stories.

Thread:
I think a lot about how one of the things that the cultural upheaval of the 1960s produced in the United States was a HUGE decline in compulsory homosociality, with tremendous beneficial results.
Here in the UK the old tradition of single-sex boarding schools for the children of the wealthy actively produces a culture of boys who are desperate for feminine attention but have no idea how to interact with women or see them as anything other than objects of desire. Those boys end up in power.

I literally just remarked on this phenomenon yesterday.

Trump at National Prayer Breakfast: "They rigged the second election. I had to win it. I needed it for my own ego. I would've had a bad ego for the rest of my life. Now I really have a big ego. Beating these lunatics was incredible ... The first time they said I didn't win the popular vote. I did"

Lolololol!!!!!

There has never been a bigger whiner and complainer in world history!
LLAMAS: Will you trust the results of the midterms if Republicans lose control of Congress?

TRUMP: I will, if the elections are honest. Look, I'm the last one that wants to complain.

He cannot be clearer. There is no difference to him between bombing random fishermen on boats and shooting Americans protesters in the face
I swear this clip is not edited. Trump pivots from downplaying the killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti ("two people out of tens of thousands and you get bad publicity") to in the very next breath claiming "we've been very tough on the waters," leaving Tom Llamas baffled ("the waters?")

America is being destroyed because it elected a man so psychologically deformed that not only can't he admit he lost an election, he can't admit that *anyone* didn't vote for him. (Recall he also investigated the 2016 popular vote as well.)

It's like something out of an ancient Greek myth.

Denaturalization as criminal punishment is not a thing in American law, it's unconstitutional under any circumstances. It can only be done in the narrow case of somebody who fraudulently obtained the naturalization itself. Otherwise they are no different from natural-born citizens who commit crimes.
Schmitt: "Your words that don’t mean anything aren't going to stop what’s coming, and I want you to take that back to Soros and all these ridiculous funders you have. Because justice is coming. And by the way, if I have it my way, we will be denaturalize all these fraudsters and send them home."

My favorite was the time we all found out that we were laid off when we were greeted at the door by security guards with boxes of our stuff and stern warnings that we'd all be prosecuted if we stole anything. Good times.
I’m reminded of the time I got laid off by email right before moving out to L.A., right after getting approved for remote work, and right after signing a mortgage, with nothing more as an opportunity for closure than a self-organized happy hour and a calendar invitation to get my things.
Friends at the Post say they have been asked to sign up for two hour times slots to come pick up their things after getting news of their jobs being gone
