As long as I live under the capitalistic system, I expect to have my life influenced by the demands of moneyed people. But I will be damned if I propose to be at the beck and call of every itinerant scoundrel who has two cents to invest in a postage stamp.

Every 2-4 years, a bunch of left-wing populists have the brilliant thought “Hey, what if people’s resentment of social minorities is actually just sublimated resentment for capitalist elites?” and then we get to spend 2-4 years once again learning that no, it’s very much the reverse

I find the whole Boomers vs Gen X vs Millennials schtick to be profoundly tiresome in general but I feel a little wistful at the possibility that we might never have a President who hasn’t played Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out in 30 years but still instinctively remembers how to beat King Hippo.

When I lived in Massachusetts and I was giving directions to my house, I would refer to it as the Big Pink House At The Top Of The Hill, and people would always ask “what hill?”

I’m from Illinois, and the ~10 feet of elevation from one end of my street to the other registered as a “hill” to me.
After not-having-lived-here for 25 years, I am once again struck at how flat Illinois is.

People like to shit on the Boomers but they at least had the good taste to be confused and alienated when the Beatles dropped “Revolution 9” and today’s youth are in their social studies class and cranking the volume on YouTube videos with titles like “MOST ANNOYING SOUNDS POSSIBLE 9 HR CHALLENGE”

They had good reason to think they had it under control. The W and Trump administrations both handed our federal judiciary to the Federalist Society and approved those selections no matter how unqualified or extreme. Not their fault that some of those extremists turned out to be competent.
