Covid isn't 'just' flu (which kills, and which is so much easier to get vaccinated against). After my one previous infection I had labyrinthitis for 6 months. It's messing us up in ways we still don't know about.

I have no disabilities, got COVID at the end of June for the (at least!) fourth time, lost my voice and have now been having vocal problems for 3-and-a-half months...I have an extremely expensive diagnostic session next week coz this is impacting my work, my mental health (obvs) and my future.

Can recommend taking a couple of antihistamines before the jab (or when you get home, if you're driving). I used to get those side effects but this time, nothing. Even if it's placebo, it's a small thing to do.

Pharmacist giving me my £98 sodding jab yesterday was baffled by the cuts to who is eligible for free ones this year. 75+ and immunocompromised, but not if you live with someone immunocompromised, which is crackers.

Took a couple of antihistamines before my Covid jab yesterday and was very out of it (which was fun; get the bus) and have no side effects this morning. Feels like learning a magic trick.

The dosage and timing for pre-vaccination is EITHER:

- 50mg diphenhydramine (Benadryl) OR 50mg promethazine (Phenergan) 15 minutes before the shot OR
- 20mg cetirizine OR 20mg loratidine 2-3 hours before the shot

Only take one of those (ie, don't take Benadryl AND cetirizine).

Had my Covid jab. 98 of your English pounds at Boots (but I did get an adorable plaster).

One little tidbit: the current Covid strain initially shows up like food poisoning (coming out either/both ends) - and you're contagious - before the standard coughing and sore throat appears.
