I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

There’s a lot of work that went into the movie, but it’s in service of making a superior product. Art is emotional. If there’s no emotion to the work, an experience can only be so deep. Discovering a thematic layer should make you cry when you realize there is so much more depth beneath the surface.

By figuring out this little detail, I feel like I’ve plumbed the depths of that aspect of the movie. There’s no meaning to the fact it’s A-Ha or AC/DC other than the nagging suspicion they picked the first hit from each year sorted alphabetically. The effort occurred but where’s the heart in it?

The jukebox songs in The Super Mario Bros Movie are meticulously chosen so that, when a game is first referenced, a hit from that year plays. Mushroom Kingdom (SMB1)? Take On Me. Mario Kart? Thunderstruck. It’s considered, obviously, but is it artful? Does it add meaning to the movie?

hey guess what I'm releasing a whole ass novel about gay vampires next month

"On the surface, Violet seems like an ordinary woman in her early thirties working a crappy bartending job, just trying to get by night after night. That is, if you ignore the dark purple hair, constantly listening to heavy metal, and smoking way too much legal Californian herb...

And, of course, the fangs.

Despite desperately hiding from a past she'd prefer to forget, everything changes the night she meets Alex, a strangely alluring human girl with a custom-built motorcycle and an adventurous spirit. When it becomes obvious that a mutual attraction starts developing between the two, Violet will have a difficult choice to make: Will she keep running from her past and her feelings to keep Alex safe from the world of the undead and the horrors that follow? Or will she risk everything, even her own unlife, for a chance at true happiness?

This is a mature novel that deals with a lot of heavy themes. While the core of the story revolves around the budding love between two (and more!) women who do ultimately achieve a happy ending, there are moments of extreme violence and horror. More detailed content warnings are below, but reader discretion is advised.

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.
