The science-based aspect of the games is always underbaked and usually just set dressing for the story. I really like the idea of it having a bigger role and more mechanics in a game one day. Like a combination of Snap and Arceus or something.

There is a whole research section that in the main menu with goals around catching a # of a type, all pokemon in a certain area, etc. that unlocks super early in the game.

I am hoping that there is a mechanic like the candy in Arceus because catching is like a reflex and I have so many dupes.

Also

The dialogue is much better in this game than it has been. S/V had some cute moments, but there have been some genuinely funny/surprising moments.

The character animations, at least in cutscenes, have really been upgraded and there are some unique ones that have made cutscenes more engaging

Otherwise I really like the game so far:

The FASHION is amazing (the hairstyles are hideous)

The day/night cycle makes the game loop feel fresh

Catch/Battle mechanics are so fun but the controls feel wonky still

The building textures don't bother me as much as S/V's nastiness

I know these are games for children, but they've needed an option to shorten or skip the tutorial sections/dialogue/cutscenes since at least Sun/Moon.

It's only getting worse as the cutscenes get longer and more frequent.
