Excellent reflect from most awesome friend and colleague @mark-ungrin.bsky.social.

"Five years ago, on April 3, 2020, the world’s top bioaerosol scientists warned the WHO that COVID was transmitted in infectious aerosols, tiny particles that drift in the air like smoke.

Forget remedial methodology, then; NERF darts and wedgies it is.

They're so deep into cult territory that it wouldn't help. They took a heuristic from the 1990s, slapped secondary sources above all primary studies, declared their own 👉opinions and editorials👈 to be higher quality evidence than all other fields. Zombies, cosplaying as scientists.

To summarize. If Trump wanted to send Ukraine Tomahawks, he could right now. If Trump wanted to sanction Russia, he could right now. If Trump
wanted to seriously bolster Ukrainian air defense against Russia drones/missiles, he could right now. But he’s not, so he doesn’t want to.

When Fox News lies, people die | We explain on PBS Newshour how the antiscience disinformation spread by the Murdoch media empire and especially Fox News, likely lead to hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths in the U.S. And that's just COVID-19. Their fossil fuel disinformation is as deadly.

Fun fact: Monica Gandhi was once affiliated with the dark money funded group called "The Urgency of Normal" w now current Trump appointees Vinay Prasad and Tracy Beth-Hoeg. Great little article about all of that.

Best part of reading family service records is finding out how many times they were fined for being AWOL.

And the first time I’ve seen “Attached to Experimental Station Suffield” which must be chemical warfare testing.

My next engineering epistemic trespass.

Engineer meta-reviews theoretical physics papers, concludes they all fail GRADE analysis and demonstrate no practical application to the real world.

(Bit of an engineer vs physicist dig in there for extra snark)

And that centre is going to churn out reems of papers just like this one.

Guessing there’s a long line of masters students whose ‘thesis’ will be a GRADE study just like that one.

Easier than the 21 months I spent locked in an anechoic chamber!

The most frustrating part is that they just don't *think*. Medicine's management class has spent so long hammering subservience and obedience-to-seniority into students and promoting the best sycophants that the entire leadership tier is totally out of their depth with anything they didn't memorize.

Betting ten dollars that if it were measured, my discipline (political science) would have superior handwashing compliance to hospital medicine. I'm catty like that lol.

Turns out institutional medicine's Dunning-Kruger + ego + power to kill people + zero accountability model wasn't such a great idea after all.

Who knew?

🤷

Well yeah, ok, Semmelweis, obviously.

It was probably a clue that they're still crowing about the one thing they learned since 1846.

It’s astounding that no one says - hey isn’t there a field of science specifically specializing in respiratory protection?

This is a bit like me sponsoring an electrical engineering review of neurosurgery papers. Hey it’s all electricity…

There's easy money in EBM syntheses though, as long as you've got the right connections to get funded. Turn the crank, pretend you're doing actual science, inflate your CV, and you too can climb the ladder in institutional medicine and launder your silly opinions into policy and guidance.

As usual, the best argument against using cookbook "Evidence Based Medicine" approaches in place of science is watching what happens when people do.

If it can't get inside you, it can't make you sick.
