I'm investing in art-- time, money, the creation of it, the support of artists, the necessary consumption of it in all forms. It's keeping me sane. It's making the world better. It's changing hearts and minds. Art makes us human and humane.

Support artists. Nurture your creativity. Fuck fascism
At the state fair with my kids, and my daughter summed up the entire carnival ride experience perfectly.

Screamed at the top of her lungs on a fast spinning ride:
"I do not feel safe, even if I know I am. This is so much fun! "

Also, an effective general strike has free transit all over town, a way of providing free food etc. It’s not just staying home it’s alternate social infrastructure so people can survive striking
Obviously, shouting "General Strike!" on such-and-such day is a bad idea. You can't "flash mob" your way to labor solidarity

But also, even with lots of preparation, buy-in, and good execution, capital and its enforcers will respond with unbelievable violence to crush you.

Philip Larkin said "What will survive of us is love," but research based on previous collapsing civilizations suggests it's more likely to be inorganic items that can be buried, burned, or struck without significant degradation. Likely what will survive of us is ceramic toilets.
What's your take on the moment we're living through in 50 words or less. [you able to quote post]
Embrace the cringe. Dive into the weird. It's where you'll find your vulnerability and your truth. Whether that's in writing, social media, or just your life, start being authentic weird self.

We're all just feral goblins underneath a thin veneer of social awareness.

I'm serious. This too is fascism.
SPD has effectively figured out a way to keep records secret from the public: First, refuse to give simple information like police reports to certain members of the media, telling them "do a PDR." Then, refuse to work on more than one request at a time, and take forever to respond.

A Universal Basic Income that help the poor and generate economic growth from the ground up? We’ve no way of knowing that’ll work! Better we invest in artificial intelligence that is currently consuming all our power to create a John Cena lookalike that tells pornographic stories to children.
Why am I vibrating?

Could it be that entire pot of coffee I just downed?

Surely not.

the intensity of my anger at those who would criminalize the homeless — a population literally created by the greed and callousness of the ruling class — is very hard to contain. it was you who dismantled the safety net. if you don’t like the results, put it back
My 11yo just finished The Martian by Andy Weir and he loved it. He reads lots of middle grade and YA fantasy and romance, but also is obsessed with planes and tech. He's all over the place as a reader. 😅

Its literally this. I have seen so many AI bros just not want to have to be bothered thinking
All this AI shit makes me feel like there's an entire genre of people who resent having to think at all.
I dreamed that Dolly Parton was hosting our local trivia, and she called me "one smart cookie," and I realized I had peeked. No high will ever match being praised by Dolly Parton.

i mean, that sure looks like their plan
We won't have to worry about social security and medicare when these motherf*ckers drop the life expectancy of Americans to the mid-50s.
I can't let the first of the month get by without marketing a tiny bit. I wrote some books! If you like fairies, urban fantasy with some spice (3🌶, some onscreen, not explicit), lots of rebellion against authoritarian regimes, and cocktail magic, check out Summer's Blood.

Me: I'm reading at my heart rate is barely above 70. And I've had three cups of coffee. Do we need a talk?

It: oh yeah. Nevermind. You're cool.

Are these the devices RFK wants us all to wear?
Also it: you went to bed after midnight, got zero REM sleep, we're awake seven times and got no recovery. Take it easy today.

Me: I was asleep before 11, had multiple dreams, woke up at 5 to put on my sleep mask, but got lots of rest. Are you okay?

It: YOUR HEART RATE IS 150!

Me: ....
Really loving my garmin watch decoding to freak out lately.

It: Your heart rate was over 115bpm ALL night so you got zero actual rest.

Me: Really? I slept quite well. Is it over 100 now?

It: YES! YOU'RE AT ... 120, 110, 104, 92, 72, restng rate of 64. Just kidding.

Me: are you okay?
I've been struggling with this for the past few years, too. Hugs.
How many books have I read this year?

Nice.
Screenshot of StoryGraph reading log for @saratbond with 69 books read this year.

Just to state the obvious: I do not believe that a political movement trying to re-legalize child labor, deny schoolkids free lunches, lower the age of sexual consent, slash funding for child care & elementary education, and slash Medicaid genuinely gives a shit about the welfare of children.

This "lazy Medicaid scammer" myth is an insane level of gaslighting

It's not like Medicaid recipients receive any money

The benefits are used to pay doctors-for medical visits

And who thinks an otherwise healthy gamer living in his mom's basement is even going to see a doctor

Just more GOP lies
New in PN: Medicaid 'gamers' are the new 'welfare queens'

"Ever since Reagan’s smear took hold, Republicans have consistently presented poverty as a moral failing, but now they’ve extended it to physical health. Medicaid recipients are somehow simultaneously too lazy and/or sick to deserve care."
Medicaid 'gamers' are the new 'welfare queens'
Republicans are taking strawman arguments to absurd extremes.

"You're not allowed to help the poor because they're disproportionately black and that's not FAIR" is a really vile argument to put on paper.

Driving home from taking some photos and saw the clouds going pink. Hurried inside when I got there and popped the drone up to get a shot of the Seattle skyline.

Color photo. The sky, at sunset. Clouds, the color of cotton candy, occupy the left, above the distant Seattle skyline. On the right, the clouds go golden. Above is a pale blue sky, and below are green trees, with a ballfield in the middle.
