Inspired by my two recent trips to the cinema, and having some free online access, I'm going to rediscover my life as a movie lover. #FilmSky 📽

A thread of what I watch:

I woke before my alarm, after the best quality sleep I've had in days, and am feeling good about heading back to work. Coffee first.

Isn't it the most joyous exhibition?! 😄

It's not to early to start stocking up on essentials for the annual It's In The Bag Xmas campaign from Share The Dignity, for women and girls experiencing domestic violence. I pop things in my weekly shop as they go on special at the supermarket.

Make Christmas special for someone living in crisis this year by donating an Adult, Teen or Mum & Bub bag. Fill a new bag or a pre-loved one (in excellent condition) with life's essentials and a few luxury items to help someone in need.

If you are creating a Teen or Mum & Bub bag, please tag your bag using a ribbon or a downloadable tag from our website. This tag will show the type of bag you have created.

Teen bags should have a yellow tag ribbon, and Mum & Bub bags a purple tag/ribbon.

Bag Essentials

shampoo & conditioner
roll on deodorant
toothbrush & toothpaste
sealed packet of pads &/or tampons
body wash or soap

All items included in the bag must be new and in sealed packaging for health and safety reasons.

I expected Toronto to be interesting but I didn't realise how beautiful it is. Interesting is more important but how about these views from the tower, the street and the water? I hope I'll be quick (relatively speaking) to return.
Looking down on the city at sunset - there's an orange sheen to the water, the lights are on, and the baseball game at the Rogers Centre is lit up like daylight. A lush-looking park, full of people walking or sitting, with the city including the CN Tower in the background. From a boat, a broad view of the Toronto skyline at sunset, with a clear peach-blue sky. Still on the boat, now looking to the west; there are the highrise buildings of more city centres in the distance and an orange sunset.

I joined a tour from Toronto to Niagara Falls - truly spectacular even if the surrounding area is very touristy. On the boat I got drenched from the knees down and loved it - I dried at an outdoor table, with fries, enjoying a singer and guitarist who had "Don't Dream It's Over" in their repertoire.
Seen from a higher vantage point, the Rainbow Bridge: a steel arch bridge high above the dark greenish-blue water between two cliffs. The far side is the USA. Still looking from higher up, a view of the American Falls: a wide waterfall crashing onto visible rocks, sending spray high into the air. Still looking down, the Horseshoe Falls, the famous curved cliff with an unfathomable amount of water spilling over it, sending up so much spray it partly obscures the falls. There's a boat amongst the spray. Now we're on a boat. Most of the frame is filled with waterfall and spray and just a section of blue sky. The people on the boat are wearing translucent red plastic ponchos that are flapping and billowing in the wind.

Aaaaand I also live in this neck of the woods - not the loveliest path in Sydney, but perfectly functional. Enjoy the exercise!

The fact that's her as a kid is something I'd almost forgotten until I read your post.

My "research" has led to a plan for some decorations in my apartment, and to being reminded that the Sydney Zombie Walk is very much a thing - and I'm tempted to go!

I went to Harry Hartog at Penrith for #LoveYourBookshopDay and bought this trio (guess which one is a gift!) - plus two Penguin books meant a small friend for me. 📚💙
Three books and a penguin figurine on a cotton tote bag. The books are:

- Chronicles of a Lizard Nobody by Patrick Ness, illustrated by Tim Miller
- 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World by Elif Shafak
- Small Worlds by Caleb Azumah Nelson Close-up of the three-dimensional rubbery model of the Penguin penguin. The base it's standing on is a small open book with an orange cover; on the white "page" is printed 2025.

I'm already obsessed with this idea. If we did for Hallowe'en what we do for Christmas (seasonally adjust), what would that look like?
schadenfrieda.bsky.social
A sudden thought as I walk past a Hallowe'en display in autumnal colours: does anyone do/has anyone ever seen Hallowe'en done with full embrace of the fact it's late spring? I don't mean the kind that just sticks to pop cultural sorts of tropes.

Some ideas that already exist: killer tomatoes, Venus fly traps, poppies...

OMG! Swooping magpies!!

You know what's a lot leafier and buzzier than I remembered (from maybe two years ago, which was already an improvement on previous years)? Penrith High Street. Some genuinely really good cafes and other shops, and the trees and hedges cool it down.

My boss: so how's our fourth quarter looking?

Me, the sales manager at the company that makes inflatable frog suits: well, you're never going to believe this, but

Hm. I was planning to stick to following 300 but I think 500 is the way forward.

I don't have a desk as such - at work or at home - but you've certainly inspired me to go through the metaphorical desk drawer (shoebox, messy bottom shelf, inbox etc.).

Oh and brown the mushroom slices first if I'm adding them again, and go a little lighter on the turmeric because this is virulently yellow.

Here it is - somehow this might be the first scrambled tofu I've made my vegan-for-26-years self. It's tasty! Needs just a little extra flavour next time like stock or black salt.
A big pile of turmeric-yellow herby scrambled tofu on some toasted pide, on an orange-rimmed plate.

I find it bleak that ChatGPT now has more users than Wikipedia. Many people would rather be spoon-fed information by a machine than read and research for themselves. Tech isn't just making us dumber. Worse than that: it's killing curiosity itself and the desire to learn.
