Alrighty, ready to see something really cool? (and maybe a little nauseating)

The evolution of Hurricane Melissa's mesovortices at peak strength.

it's not a taking ownership kind of pride, me sending like $60 a year certainly doesn't entitle me to that. it's just been so wonderful to watch some nice Midwestern boys work hard and have it pay off spectacularly. I just think what they've accomplished is so cool!

anyone else feel a weird sense of like, pride in the work of online creators you've been following / supporting via Patreon for a crazy long time

I've loved Red Letter Media's videos for more than a decade and yeah, I actually do feel proud when I think of what they've built and accomplished.

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

With the AI Google summaries, people aren't just cherry-picking the failures. The only time it is 100% is when there is an extremely easy and well-known answer to your inquiry. If it's anything you'd actually need to dig to find, it will hallucinate a fake answer basically every time.
3. there is a telltale shimmer/changing of details that is indicative of AI videos (look at the distant houses, and details of the floor boards)

5.The possum looks on the wrong direction
6. One of the the table legs does an odd thing as it contacts the ground
For those who can't see the link, the video has many common signs of being generated by Sora2.

Charles Xavier: My school helps mutants control their powers. This is Cyclops, he was my first student and he is totally incapable of controlling his powers. This is Jean Grey, she started with Scott. She also cannot control her powers. And meet Rogue, yep you guessed it, can't control her powers

Just spent some time digging through old Maxar/DigitalGlobe blogs to find a reference image and found this incredible capture of Mt Fuji. Incredible.

The satellite was only three degrees above the horizon when it captured this image.

Best glory I’ve ever seen from a plane! It’s an optical phenomenon that occurs when light interacts in and around tiny droplets of water in the clouds, in the direction opposite the sun. More complex than a rainbow. Here’s a link to some more info: www.zmescience.com/science/phys... #optics #physics
Zodiacal light? I.e. Sunlight reflected off dust in the solar system's ecliptic plane?

First look at Adam Scott in Damian McCarthy’s ‘HOKUM’

The film follows a horror novelist who travels to an Irish inn to scatter his parents' ashes, unaware that the inn is rumored to be haunted by a witch.

Astronomy is so weird sometimes. You can't tell how big that object is without some sense of scale… but it's well over SIXTY BILLION KILOMETERS ACROSS.

And that little dot in the gap? *That's a baby planet bigger than Jupiter siphoning up material to grow.*

SHIN GODZILLA is currently back in cinemas and you should go watch it. I wrote about how it stands apart from other Godzilla movies, and how its apocalyptic sensations feel troublesome and relevant.
