I'm Aly! Mostly, I like to talk about video games, and am an avid fan of RPGs and otome games.

I work FT in public sector finance, but localization is my passion. I had the very fortunate opportunity to be a loc editor for the Switch port of Tokyo Xanadu eX+! And hoping there will be more to come!
The main cast of Tokyo Xanadu standing at the in-game location of Sunshine Road. From left to right, primary cast members Yuuki, Mitsuki, Kou, Asuka, Shio and Sora are featured. A screen shot from Tokyo Xanadu eX+'s ending credits. On the left side is the staff roll, with a pink arrow pointed toward my name in the Editor section, alongside an inserted image of a chibi Shio. On the right side is an image of party member Rion in her idol attire. She is surrounded by the other members of her idol group, SPiKA, though they are not in focus. A screenshot from the Switch release of Tokyo Xanadu eX+. Shio is standing at the Bridge Underpass, with his hand curled up in a fist and an angry expression. The dialogue box reads, "I'll beat thr stupid out of you, since Kazuma's not here to do it himself!" A screenshot from the Switch release of Tokyo Xanadu eX+. Rion is facing away from the camera to look at Kou. Kou is sitting with his arms folded. The dialogue box from Kou reads, "I was so wrapped up in my own problems that I didn't even consider what the people around me were dealing with."

this is why i love games like 13 sentinels, zero escape, nier, etc. i think even games that feel largely straightforward (like, trails or many vns) get to do fun, unique things that don't really feel right as just an anime, a movie, a book, or what have you...

i think games are neat
straylize.bsky.social
i long for more games that fully incorporate their gameplay elements into the narrative and vice-versa, and take advantage of being able to do things that are unique to the medium.

it doesn't HAVE to just be cinematics between gameplay sequences and i love when the immersion is key to the narrative
straylize.bsky.social
when a game's mechanics create some of the environmental storyelling, when they use ways to tell a story that won't work nearly as well in other mediums... it's just so cool to see. they're always my favorite types of games.

the narratives are what keep me invested, i get so... 🥰

i do think there are still a decent number of games - and people, both who play them and don't, and those who make games, too - that think a game's story is just a vehicle for the gameplay. and i think you can tell when that is secondary.

but i think they shine most in tandem
straylize.bsky.social
i love when games truly care about the story they want to tell and put that effort into creating a world and characters that you can get attached to.

games have such unique ways of being immersive their storytelling outside of JUST having cinematics so i love when it's utilized fully

yeah, RD is divisive enough, but PoR is a game i actively do not like. i replayed them fairly recently and came away just as annoyed. and 3h is still my favorite.

but i do love both jugdral games so there's that lol
straylize.bsky.social
i don't like the tellius games at all so that automatically puts me in the "everyone tells me my fe opinions are bad and wrong" camp lmao
straylize.bsky.social
(asking me what my favorite/least favorite trails, tales, ffs, fes, etc can be a comical landmine because some of my absolute favorites have the WORST receptions, and some of my least favorites are the ones heralded as series peaks)
straylize.bsky.social
really and truly, if you ask me what my favorite games in a popular series are, i will often cite the games people consider "mid" or "game bad" while being very much so not into the fan favorites.

and it's not even to be contrarian, but i do love to just play a game and form my own opinions

This is a lovely article. It’s nice to be reminded that your collection doesn’t have to be filled what people SAY is good, but simply what you love.

Some of my least-played games are considered all-timers and some of my faves are certified 5/10s. Explore! Go beyond those popular online opinions!
A screenshot from the article reading:
“The other side of that coin sounds like it should be just as obvious, but I find it often gets lost amongst the reams of well-intended recommendations and long lists filled with games you “must” play: Don’t buy games you “should” like. You can have an absolutely fantastic time with a PC Engine and never buy a single Ys for it. You can happily spend weeks with a Saturn and never touch some rare Japanese shmup. You can own a SNES for a lifetime and have no strong feelings either way about Mario Kart.

You’re allowed to simply not like racing games/RPGs/point ‘n’ click adventures, even the really good ones you’re “supposed” to, and it’s OK to see a few screenshots of something and then actually listen to the voice in the back of your head that’s insisting you wouldn’t enjoy playing whatever it is.”

i'm glad!! the prices really weren't as bad as they could've been, some other kpop shows this year had some insane pricing so i'm glad this is just a lot more accessible in general

Absolutely love this twitter classic:
Exchange between two twitter users. A man called Scott Castaneda write to Tom Morella, "I use to be a fan until your political opinions come out. Music is my sanctuary and the last thing I want to hear is political bs when I'm listening to music. As far as I'm concerned you and pink are completely done. Keep running your mouth and ruining your fan base." User Howard Finklestein replies, "What 'machine' did you think he was raining against? The dishwasher?"

Happy Anniversary #MetaphorReFantazio!

What a game 🥹

e33 is interesting to me because you can so easily tell what inspired it and that makes it fun to pick up on plot points and foreshadowing

but my favorite thing is sincerely how much of the aesthetic relies on art deco in its styling bc it's just one of my all-time favorite aesthetics
straylize.bsky.social
LMAOOO I HAVE JUST BEEN HABITUALLY DOING IT ON FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS LATELY bc a bitch is always so tired and i like to be prepared, but i will just play games until i am sleepy if you're not up for it even after a nappy! i will be here to slam dmcls in the dms anyway
straylize.bsky.social
IT'S OK... IT HAPPENS... if you get a burst of energy and feel Da Vibes then i'll be around bc i had coffee and i'm wired but you gotta take care of you!! so blankies and dmcls is also just fine
straylize.bsky.social
just wraps u in da blankies tbh, as you deserve
straylize.bsky.social
i do miss my big gulp nitro cold brews but 99% of the time the machines just spit out water with no coffee bc all the 7-11 locations near me kind of suck. and my coffee options at home don't have that boost.

i need to invest in an espresso machine, honestly
straylize.bsky.social
my weekend life has been fundamentally changed by the existence of zero sugar added iced coffees from dutch bros bc that shit is loaded with caffeine but does not destroy my calorie deficit.

and i live super close to one so it's convenient
straylize.bsky.social
you deserve REST and RELAXATION... i know the reward will be worth it but what is it with jobs making sure the weeks before and after a vacation are HELL
straylize.bsky.social
it's still bullshit when you have to work so hard for that.... working weekends on a salary should be a crime tbh!!!!
straylize.bsky.social
Exactly! It always makes me so happy to see people succeeding and doing what they love. It's rough out here in so many ways so I never want to take those moments for granted. Better to share joy than misery (which there is understandably too much of these days)
