Hey there, new folks! My name is Kris, and I work on video games, anime, and other media. Taquka’angcuk is my Alutiiq name and means “Little Bear.”

I know most of my posts have been raging against AI lately, but I really haven’t had a whole lot of time to breathe with work and life and everything else. I swear I’ll fall down some niche rabbit hole or other and start posting about Sound Novels or some obscure licensed action game soon.

VoiceQ sending out an email proudly proclaiming that their rhythmoband is uniquely positioned for AI and hybrid dubbing really does a great job of further justifying my distaste for VoiceQ.

I don’t know if it only makes sense without the periphery stuff, but Nier has books, stage plays, etc. I once asked Taro about this and how are English fans supposed to keep up and he looked confused and asked “Why would you need to keep up? Who needs all of that?”
After "film trilogy that dropped a critical plot point exclusively via timed Fortnite event" and "video game series whose story only makes sense if you're aware of the events of a canon pachinko machine", I feel like there are whole frontiers of user-hostile narrative design waiting to be explored.

I've been doing video game VO since 2003. In my 20+ years, only ONE game has ever paid "royalties/residuals/bonus payments."
That game?
Date Everything.
And that's ONLY because it's a game produced by professional voice actors who purposefully created a special contract for the game w/ SAG-AFTRA.

They will tell you no. They might even laugh.

someone asked me literally yesterday if I could use AI for voice acting for Waifu Death Squad since there are so many speaking parts, and my response was "why would I want to do that? Working with actors is the fun part, because they'll surprise you with their line reads or dialogue tweaks."
The thing that strikes me about replacing voice actors with AI slop is that, in the scope of a big AA/AAA production it barely saves money? These people aren't even full time. It's immizerating people because immizerating people is your goal, nothing more.
