It may feel weird or somehow improper to talk about your art or your writing, but we need it. It can’t be wall-to-wall nightmare all the time. Art is both counterweight and context. It’s escape and enlightenment and a mirror of our own exasperation. We need it. We NEED it. Keep showing us.

I am dumbly proud that I got the two bars working so that they stay on-screen and do not obstruct any content up or down. I love making html and css sites per hand with the little knowledge I have. Who needs AI if you can just try and do things?

I read Krabat in one night because I liked it so much, gnawed on some fantasy novel whose name I have forgoten already for over a year, and nowadays read mostly (depressing) non-fiction about tech. But I do keep reading because it is fun and I am an introvert who doesn't go to parties.

Yeah, I mean he writes that but then his aim seems to be to show that these things are a foundation of western thought. But if it is a radical denial of our (read western) principles, then that seems contradictory at its core. Or is his aim to make it a foundation and not argue that it is one?

Can't believe there were gamers even in the 17th century, history is so fascinating.

Alexis Trousset (alias Jacques Olivier) emerged briefly from obscurity in 1617, when he published a misogynistic tract entitled Alphabet of the Imperfection and Malice of Women. Trousset composed his diatribe as alphabetically ordered descriptions of female vices, beginning with the letter'A' (a very avaricious animal') and dedicated it to 'the worst creature in the world? The following extract from the preface exemplifies the style and content of the whole book:

Woman! If your arrogant and fickle mind could know the fate of your misery and the vanity of your condition, you would flee from the light of day and seek out the shadows; you would hide in caverns and caves; you would curse your misfortune, regret your birth and hate yourself. Nonetheless, the extreme blindness that deprives you of this knowledge makes you live in society as the most imperfect creature in the universe, the scum of nature, the breeding ground of evils, the source of controversy, the laughing stock of the insane, the scourge of wisdom, the firebrand of hell, the instigator of vice, the cesspool of filth, a monster in nature, a necessary evil, a multiform chimera, a harmful pleasure, the bait of the devil, the enemy of the angels, the mask of God, deforming and undermining the wisdom of the very God who created you.'

Is Luffy a messias figure? Yes, but he is not christlike in any more meaningful sense (the virtues of christ are, if at all, split up between the members of his crew). The parallels between antichrist and world government are also flimsy at best. There is a better angle and in this essay I will...

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

Wondering how long it will take after Trump is gone until the first prominent opinion pieces are written that call him a communist (with bailing out Argentina, heavy market control, corruption etc. as reasons for the diagnosis). I would bet 10€ that it will happen, but when?

The thing is that in theory each image tells the decoder how maby pixels it has so adding more data if not having enough data should cause problems. Enough to do some exploits or open a shell? Unlikely, most likely the program is gonna abort or skip the image. Then again...

I only discovered that because I made a misstake in my encoder and my full color gif starts with an eod in each image instead of a clear code (typical off by one tbh). But windows still displays the gif while firefox says it is broken.
